    That's a good idea.

I don't see anything wrong with a long action mag fed .30-06 obviously but it certainly is a specific solution to a specific problem.

How did that gun work out? Did you get to shoot some matches?

Save a few dollars and get yourself a Remington 5 R milspec with the HS Precision stock, and get it in a 24 inch threaded barrel. You'll do yourself a favor in the long run, not have to change out the stock for any good reason, and the barrel is a nicer barrel

I did some basic zeroing and sight setup about a month or two ago and haven't been on the range since. Work has been crazy busy, and I'm still chasing the badge and a HM card with the service rifle. The chassis is interesting, and some of the setup is different than I originally expected (I don't like handstops it seems). All in all it is a very satisfying rifle but I haven't stretched her legs at all. Globe sights give me too many variables right now, and it's going to take some time for me to adapt and find out what works.

Is the plan to roll the gun over sideways a little to get the comfortable angle for positional stuff and then bring the sights back to TDC?
I thought that was the big advantage of spaceguns...

It is a general method to spaceguns/tube guns but the RTMs handguards don't rotate like all of Gary's other chassis. I can still roll the whole rifle but the handstop is in line with the pistol grip, and while I like the fact that it is repeatable, I think I can get that repeatability with an adjustable sling swivel and avoid having a big handstop in the mix.

One thing that I've heard from the older guys that I don't read online or hear about often is that many good shooters just set up the chassis like a service rifle because they already figured out how to shoot that. Then the changes are really small for tweaking the position. It's not the olympic transformer that I thought I wanted, but that's ok because I don't actually want that.

The advantages are that you can adjust the gun to fit your personal requirements. I don't adjust much once I get it where I want it. Shooting with a small cant at 200 or 300 yards is not a problem. A lot of guys let a space gun cant a bit. At 600, 800, 900, and 1000 the cant can be an issue but we are shooting at know distances so you know your dope for each range.

I understand that but if you want to do something that's different, you don't always get off the shelf components.

Randall have you tried the 30-06 version of Accurate Mags aics style mags? Wondering if you ever got them to feed well?

I'm looking to put together 8541 Tacticals budget precision build rifle and I found out that Remington now makes a 26" rifle that covers 2 of the items on the builds list. Rifle and stock. The build list is a little dated, as in prices and links, but the list itself is still sound. The scope on the list is similar to one I've used before. The Bushnell Elite Tactical 8-24x50. The mil-dot cross hairs are too thick for precision at full magnification, sometimes even at partial magnification, so I was looking to get an SWFA SS 10x because it has an MRAD cross hair, as is discussed in the following video.

                                8541 TACTICAL'S BUDGET PRECISION BUILD

                                REMI 700 LONG RANGE RIFLE

My question is has anyone done some research or gotten some use out of this linked rifle yet, and what is the feed back???
I have one in 300 WM. I had a brake installed, tactical bolt knob and adjusted the factory trigger to about 2 lbs. Weaver Extreme 8 to 32X scope in 30mm is on sale at Natchez for $329.00 if you're looking for a budget scope, the 6 to 24X is $289.00.

The stock doesn't look like much but the higher comb and wider, flatter forend help quite a bit. Accuracy is about what you'd expect with any Remington.

I think I paid about $650.00 for mine - Cabela's IIRC. I'd prefer that the gun come already threaded for a brake, seems to me needed if one is going to plink 30 calibers for the day. I'd like to add detach bottom metal but I presume the stock would have to be hogged out to accept the rig. If there's a drop in detach mag set up out there that a) doesn't require stock modification and b) doesn't cost 2/3rds the cost of the rifle or isn't "Kwik Klip" I'd buy it. But I don't know that such a thing exists.

All in all, I like mine.
