    Advice needed regarding glasses

I have a -9.5 glasses prescription. I tried to shoot a rifle with a magnified scope recently and I couldn't get a decent sight picture. The views was either horribly distorted or small, like when you have the eye relief wrong.

Is there a solution? Or do I have to limit myself to parallax free red dots (which worked fine) for rifle shooting?

Did you try to move the rifle forward or back to see if it might be the eye relief?

Prior to Lasik Surgery I was -10.25 Diopters and didn't have any trouble with scope.

I tried to adjust my head for eye relief. I couldn't find a spot where it worked.

Short of LASIK, you may need prescriptions specifically made for shooting. Check these guys out: Shooting RX eyewear.

Did you try adjusting the ocular lens on your scope? Most scopes come with ocular lens adjustment capabilities. Scopes come factory pre-adjusted but can be re-adjusted to fit your needs.

You will have to loosen the lock ring behind the ocular lens bell and re-tighten it after the adjustments are made. Be carful not to totally unscrew the ocular lens out or you will brake the seal and release the nitrogen from the scope.

            Hope that helps.

Scopes should not be a problem at all but the scope needs to be mounted in the right place for starters. If you don't have much experience with scopes, turn down the power they are easier to use at lower settings.

Not sure what a -9.5 glasses prescription means. Are you near-sighted or far-sighted? Can you see well through the scope without glasses? There's a company called Eagle Eye that also makes prescription glasses for shooters.

                    What Highpower said.

If you're in NorCal; Dr. Wong has aided a number of shooters. Has even had guys bring in their gun & optic to work out a solution.

Of course the scope you tried could have had too much magnification for its objective lense size or just of poor quality?

Very, very nearsighted. I didn't think to try without my glasses as they were under my shooting glasses.

Surgery, laser or otherwise isn't something I'm interested in. My prescription generally rules out laser and the idea of having a lens installed in my eye makes me nauseous.

I'll look into the glasses and eye doctor.

I did adjust the focus ring. It was a decent 30mm 1-4x scope I tried it at 4x and 1x.

I'll see if I can get the light through the scope without glasses. It might be a head position problem. I can't get the right part of my glasses behind the scope.

I have the same prescription as you with some mild astigmatism.

The key is setting up the scope correctly and then adjusting the focus against a solid background (the sky) to insure the reticle is nice and sharp.

Make sure your head position and eye relief is directly perpendicular to the objective lense... You shouldn't be staining your neck, canting your neck, etc. It should lie directly on the comb of your stock.

Like you, LASIK is out of the question for me... Having seen so many specialists for my eyes (I also shoot service rifle), they have all agreed that the procedure does not outweigh my current lifestyle's risk (high impact, high risk activities). The risk of my corneal flap coming undone is too high...

The fate of the wounded rest in the hands of the ones who apply the first dressing.

LASIK is the best money you'll ever spend. In all honesty, now that I've done it (7 years and counting) I can say that I would sell every gun I had to fund the procedure and start over. Well, maybe not EVERY gun...
