Any DTA shooters out there?

I wanted to see how many shoot the DTA in CA? I haven't seen a good thread on this forum regarding Desert Tech. can't wait for the MDR to be released.

There are a few here on CalGuns who have them. I had a gen 1 with .308 and .243 barrel. Pretty much shot the .243 exclusively. Fun rifle. Sold it and moved to other long guns.

I have the first rifle sent to CA in late 2008

My conversions in the order I acquired them:

I do, have both Gen 1 and 2 of the SRS with 308, 338 and 6.5. Love them.

I hear good things about the .510 whisper, I wanted to try that out.

I really want one of these, but $1300/ barrel? That price doesn't sound great, and my guess is they are the only ones who make/ sell them... I shoot at least a couple times a week, when not on vacation, and assume I will need a new barrel after not too long.

Please tell me I'm wrong?

good question, the platform isn't for everyone, I love it. one range bag and I have 3 different guns. you can get barrels for less, 1000 or so. if the caliber uses the same bolt face. there areason several barrel makes for the DTA, SAC TS customs, John beanland, Sin city Precision, etc.. even Proof Research.

it's fun to be able to change it up with the same gun, plus having such a compact rifle with a nice 1lbs trigger . makes me happy

Conversion kits include barrel, barrel extension, bolt and mag and go from $1300-1500. But if you already have the bolts and mags you need, then getting a barrel is much cheaper because all you need is a blank, a barrel extension and a smith to put it all together. When I lived in New Zealand I got several of my barrels for about $700. Nowadays many 3rd party smiths will do DTA barrels.

There are a few barrel manufacturers that make DTA barrels but if I wanted a switch barreled rifle I'd look at AI.

The HTI chassis alone is 5+k before you even get a barrel and then each barrel kit will run you about 2.5k msrp

I tried one once at a range and did not like the feel. I can switch barrels faster than any of them, I just grab another rifle

but is the AI a bullpup?... that's the unique feature and lure for some. AI is great and nice rifle, but the DTA is a compact powerhouse. like a midget on steroids

I got the Gen 2 with Nightforce Beast mil/mil in 6.5 Creedmoor, 300 Win Mag and 338 Lapua Magnum. Shoots like a dream. Crazy accurate. I love my setup.

sick set up. I love the BEAST, it's got a learning curve that is for sure.



6.5 Creedmoor with the Can, but my real love is the 6.5 SAUM... now that's a freaking caliber
