google is your friend brassrain http://www.angelesranges.com/

300 winny ain't too bad in a heavy gun like that. I'd add a break and shoot some cheaper match ammo until you start rolling your own http://www.hornady.com/store/300-WIN-MAG-195-GR-BTHP/

Pala will get you to 887, BLM will get you as far as you can put your steel out. I hear there is a range near 29 palms that will get you out to near a mile, but have not been.

Start out by shooting it and working up a load for the rifle...

Once you have shot out the barrel, consider having the action reworked when you rebarrel it.
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
        (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

The accuracy will drop off at around 1000-1500 rounds fired depending on how hot the barrel is allowed to get.

Load up some Sierra 220's or some Berger 215 or 230's and shoot it at the monthly 2000 yard matches in/near Barstow.

Re-machined to (hopefully) be straighter and more concentric.

Or even the Midrange matches to start out and get your zero's at 300, 500, and 600 yds.

                            Schedule's here:

If you want to seriously shoot long range you will shoot with the Santa Margarita Gun Club, the Coalinga Rifle Club, and the Tri County Gun Club in Cuyama.

You'll be doing a lot of driving and camping. That's just how it is. The cheapest part of Long Range is the rifle, the most expensive is the RV.

frank: Wait a minute. There are more than one wizard? Is [are?] the wizard calibrated?
