But what are those problems? And do those problems exist with other factory-fluted bolts that have much larger flutes (Defiance, BAT, Stiller, Bighorn, etc.)?

I've got a Defiance Deviant, a BAT M, and a BAT EX (on order) all ordered from the factory with fluting (diamond on the BATs). I know it serves no purpose, other than I like the way it looks.

      To each, their own
You will never, in your life, have a chance like this again.
If I were you, I would not pass this up. I would not let this go by...this is rare.

I know you know. It is simply amazing, they didn't really have electricity or digital anything. No x-ray for metals. And at the most fundamental level, the weapons, the bolt guns have improved by a microscopic step. Compared to technology, they had bolt action/cartridge licked in 1895 or 1899 or 1906 or whatever your favorite year and cartage is.

Compare a 6.5x55 Swede and a 6.5 Creedmore. Nothing. Do the same with Mauser, Mosin or a Mas or anything to anything modern. Just time and money and will and precision. Preaching to the choir. Flutes ??? If someone opened a sarcophagus a century from now and found a fluty fruity rifle bolt they would laugh.

            This is for Randall

            Hope you saw this . . .. . . 6.5x55 at 1,000 yards

This showed up from the West Virginia State Championships at Harry Jones Memorial Club, Fairview, WV.

Check out Light Gun Match 4 relay 2. Mr. James Lorenz

I read that as a 2.642-inch group at 1,000 yards.

Also, scroll down to Match 3 & 4 Equipment List. Granted not a Swede rifle or even a Mauser, but ****ing A'. From a Cartridge accepted for service in 1894.

You need to visit more museums. Pretty much every piece of weaponry, armor, tool, ANYTHING you find throughout human history has some aesthetic form to it. When someone makes something, they typically try to instill some modicum of artistry, craft, passion, pride, and culture into it. Especially weapons—from guns to swords to lances to clubs to armor to vehicles to military dress. Nothing is without form. Yeah, a rifle is a tool. It doesn't need to look pretty. But screw that. You want to talk abut sarcophagi? Nobody was laughing when they popped open an ancient Egyptian pharaoh's sarcophagus and found an intricately made and engraved club. Instead, they were probably like, "Whoa, that's cool as ****, bro. Take my photo."

Yeah, a Rem 700 with fluted bolt is a dime a dozen. And probably isn't a museum piece. But the point is, your opinion is wrong. Aesthetics play a huge part in the weapons of the day. No matter what year it is. Go take a look at the ancient weapons exhibit at the Met. and you'll see some freakin' awesome examples of beautiful weapons. That **** blew my mind. There are examples of craftsmanship there in the Japanese sword exhibit alone that I never even dreamed a person could create with their bare hands today, let alone 600 years ago.

So bolt flutes? Hell yeah. Bring 'em on.

If you want to paint your bolt or entire gun florescent pink I could care less, I'm not the one that is using it. I'm going grouse hunting this morning, i'm taking a .22 rifle for them and a friend going with me is taking a shotgun. Who cares which one is used to shoot the grouse with. I think the problem in CA is a lot of people wear the hat a couple sizes too tight.
