    I think I made a mistake

I had some time to kill so I popped into a LGS and was talking to the owner. I mentioned that I was in the market for a compact 308 and was strongly leaning toward the T3 Compact, but have not seen them in town to try on for size. One thing lead to another and he offers me a Mossberg ATR for just over $300 OTD. This one did not have a scope. I went ahead and bought it without much knowledge of this gun. Looking for info on this gun did not finding very promising results.

This will be a starter gun for boar, deer, and yotes if we ever get out hunting. Does anyone know if there are any aftermarket stocks available for it or if there are magazine upgrades. Or cut my losses and get my Tikka after all and leave this one as a truck gun.

Buying a product you don't know occasionally works out, but is something I like to avoid. Good luck.

Ehh, you could have done worse. Keep it, stick some cheap glass on it, and shoot the sh*t out of it. Practice everything, from form to breathing to zeroing and the rest. Have fun

I was thinking a mid level glass...maybe a Nikon or Redfield. Something that I can move to my Tikka when I get it. Wife already said she wants me to pick some models to save on my Amazon wishlist. I already have a cheap scope I can use for now, but wanted something a little nicer.

The Redfield would be good. When you get the Tikka but a Leupold on it.

If you're going to be hunting with it, why the desire to change stock and magazine?

                Have you shot it yet?

How does the gun fit you ?

                How does the recoil feel?

                How accurate is it?

What type of magazine upgrade are you talking about?

For only $300, you can't go THAT bad. It'll probably end up at the back of a closet, but you can shoot it in the meantime.

I have not shot it yet, but it fits well and even have room for a limb saver. The reason for the stock and magazine change is that I prefer something with a removable box magazine. So far the only aftermarket stock I found is the Boyds. Nice stock and nice price, but no boxmag option.

As far as accuracy, if I get minute of deer or pig, I'll be happy. I heard with a little work, it can be made to do .5-1" groups @100yds.

Just shoot it, you may like it as a starter.
At $300 you are not that bad off !!

Take it to the range and try it... you might end up liking it.

Not for a field gun you don't. You may think you do but you don't really. Leave it alone and let it be the field rifle, give it to the new guy after it's served you well.

I agree with most of the people above $300 isn't that much for working rifle.
so you're not out that much if you hate it and I'm sure someone would buy it for not that less than you paid if you decide to get rid of it and go for something different.

(I got $200 if you throw in your ammo.) ;-)

but get it out to a range and shoot it a few different times.
you might decide that a stock / magazine upgrades are not what you want.
it could be something else but you won't know until you get out and enjoy it some.

Congratulations! I don't think you've done that badly.
