Your Razor has a listed weight of 35.2oz.
The Viper PST FFP 4-16x50 is 22oz.
The Viper PST FFP 2.5-10x44 (mag range better for a hunting rifle) is just 18.4oz.

I'd want FFP, a simple reticle, uncapped turrets and a big enough objective lens that eye-relief isn't an issue.

The Viper PST FFP 4-16x50 with MRAD reticle would be a lighter than my EBR-2B and very similar to it. Besides it is much cheaper.

3-10 would be a better magnification for a hunting scope.
The scope you have now is a great target shooting scope.

In other words, it's NOT a great target shooting gun OR a great hunting gun.

You ALREADY have a great target gun with a great scope.
          Leave it alone.

Get a less expensive rifle ~$700 and a less expensive scope ~$500 and call it good.

I checked out the new version of the Vortex Viper PST FFP EBR-2C and its weight 23.4 ounces vs. the FFP 4-16x50 which weighs in at 22 ounces. That is only 1.4 ounces difference to get as reticle very similar to one I have. Wouldn't also be a better long range hunting scope to have available if needed? It will cost $950 with free shipping. How much visible difference is there between the two scopes for seeing and identifying the target?

It could easily be argued that you DON'T want uncovered target turrets on a gun that you sling all day as there is a chance the knobs will get spun.
Hunting guns traditionally have capped knobs for this reason.
Unless you are ONLY hunting longrange, a 4-16 is way more scope than needed.
You want something with a 1.8-2.5x magnification on the low end and 10x is more than enough on the top end for most hunting.

If you go wandering through the brush after hogs and only have 4x magnification on the bottom end, you are in for a surprise at 15yds.
My hog gun has a 1-3x scope on it because I don't ever expect to use it past 150yds.
              The scope weighs 8.5 ounces.

What is your idea of long range hunting? If you're hunting here in CA the lead bullet hunting ban just severely reduced the range at which you can take big game. Someone else here just realized that the move from lead to copper hunting bullets reduced the range at which he knows the round will reliably expand from almost 800 yards down to 400. Besides, how far do you think you will ever reasonably hunt at?

If it were me getting a solely hunting rig, I'd just get a 2.5-10 second focal plane scope, stick it on a 7mm-08, and never try to take a shot beyond what the point blank range would be so that I don't have to worry about drop calculations in the field. That's still 300 yards, in a very popular cartridge, and I don't have to do a thing beyond a quick range to make sure I'm at PBR or less.

If you can't hunt with that in CA, you are probably doing something very specialized, and probably wouldn't be asking about equipment for it.

I have a build in the works, a Spartan Precision 6.5 creedmoor. Now I have to think about a great scope to match the rifle I am having built.

                  P.S. I am going put a Vortex Razor HD \Gen II 4.5-27x56 FFP with a EBR-2C reticle.
