    6.5 Xtreme Hunter from GAP?

Xtreme Hunter uses 6.5 4S or RSAUM round, will the standard 6.5 Creedmoor round work? I tried to call GAP but they were not in and do not know when they will be back.

The 6.5 Creedmoor will be great to shoot.

CptDan; That is want to find out? It is supposed to be a 6.5 4S which is a RSAUM, which is GAP's version of the SAUM. The Hunter has the Templar short action bolt system. How does that relate to what type of ammo that will use? I need to GAP to see if I am worrying about nothing.

How is the Grendel Round different or is it similar 6.5x284 which is a bigger round with ability to take more grains of powder.

      Thanks,
      Henry

        6.5 Xtreme Hunter from GAP?

A 6.5 4s chambered rifle will NOT shoot the 6.5 creedmoor cartridge.
You need to shoot the 6.5 4s or 6.5 rsaum cartridge in a gun chambered as such.

          A picture is worth a 1000 words.

Pathfinder; I do not see the 6.5 x 4S or as GAP calls it the RSAUM in the rounds listed. What round will work the GAP Xtreme Hunter, or would I have to specify what caliber when I have it built. Each round has so many different dimensions, what I need find out from GAP is which caliber they use in their Extreme Hunter. Hopefully they will be in tomorrow. Buying a 6.5 requires a lot more thinking than buying a .308.

            Thanks,
            Henry

Long Range Hunting Online Magazine has a rifle 6.5 4S SAUM that shoots a 140 grain bullet, would that be any help in identify what caliber, maybe a
              6.5x55 by chance?

All 6.5 caliber cartridges use a 6.5mm / .264" diameter bullet. The only thing that changes is weight of the bullet, and by virtue of that, the length of the bullet. In the picture I posted all of them use the same diameter bullet. The larger the shell, the heavier the bullet that can be utilized.

Caliber is the diameter of the bullet. NOT the size of the complete cartridge.

No, it's based on the Short Action Ultra Mag case or SAUM for short.

The SAUM rounds, regardless of projectile size, use a "Magnum" boltface which is .534". The 6.5 Creedmoor uses a standard boltface of .473".
So, no, they are not similar.

But for $4,370, in sure George can chamber up whatever caliber you want in an Extreme Punter.

Be aware that the 2,500rd projection they have must be based on firing a few shots at a time. For target shooting it'd be FAR fewer.

For less money you could have a lighter-weight build with a titanium action, Proof Research carbon fiber-wrapped barrel and a Manners carbon-fiber lightweight stock.

Pthfindr; Thanks for clarifying that for me, know I know that the
                      6.5 mm / .264" diameter bullet.

Killshot44; Who makes a long range shooting that will have a better projection than the 2500 rounds that I can use target shooting and I hunting and get a longer life out of that barrel?

Who makes a quality build that you described in 6.5 mm, is it Proof Research?

Looking for a new better 6.5 mm rifle.

I went to Proof Research Rifle and those rifles seem mighty nice but the cost a lot more that GAP Rifles 3K or 4k more. They are way beyond my budget.

I just talked to GA Precision and they said, the Xtreme Hunter uses a custom round that needs to special ordered. That nixes it for me.

Now I will continue the search.

Pthfindr; Can you recommend a rifle for me that a light trigger pull.

The general consensus for a person wanting to get into their first long range target rifle is the Remington 700 5R in 308. You get a lot of barrel life, and you can run the TUBB trigger.

That gets you commercial ammo, a good barrel, great barrel life, an excellent trigger and all the possible upgrades you want for less than $2000. Go get it.
weg: That device is obsolete now. They replaced it with wizards.
frank: Wait a minute. There are more than one wizard? Is [are?] the wizard calibrated?

In case you were wondering, Copper Creek is the only company that loads ammo for the 6.5 SAUM 4S. $289 for 50 rounds. http://coppercreekammo.com/index.php...roducts_id=232

If you have the coin to spend on an Xtreme Hunter, why not just do a custom build through GAP or Spartan Precision? Build your own iteration of the Xtreme Hunter. Here's my suggestion if you are set on a short action round like a 6.5 Creedmoor.

                              Extreme Lightweight Rifle
                              -Pierce Titanium Action
                              -Proof carbon barrel, Sendero contour
-Manner Elite Hunter 100% carbon fiber stock
                              -PTG Stealth bottom metal
