Can't go wrong with a Howa 1500. Very accurate and reliable. Even all the redneck hunters know that the Japanese make a damn good rifle.

It's not a .308, but if what you want is something different with more bang, Buds has Howa 1500 Long Actions in 7mm Reminton Magnum for @$350. I just put an order on one. Great deal for a long action Howa/Weatherby. http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/p...ic%2024/quot;/

About 6 months ago, I was sitting around on a Sunday morning, drinking my coffee when I came across an ad for PSA that had a Marlin X7 .308 for $249. I figured what the hell. I slapped on a Vortex I had laying around, and gave it a Krylon camo paint job and I have a great plinker that has exceeded my expectations.

Definitely look at the Savage FCP.

Also, check out the Remington 700 AAC-SD.

The Remington 700 SRS is very nice too. They are always on sale somewhere. Turners was selling them for $499 back in March.

                      Good luck.

                        It'seems not that hard.

Salt works can help you with the parts list you need to complete the rifle.

Was just at Walmart in McKinney, Texas with my cousin and they have the new Mossberg Patriot with Vortex Scope Combo in .308 Win for $429.

I currently have two rifles in .308

First is a Thompson Center Venture that shoots amazingly well, and didn't break the bank.

The second is a Mossberg MVP which I have yet to fire.

700's, Tikkas, etc. are all excellant choices and I own many in different calibers. My suggestion would be go to your LGS and start shouldering rifles until you find the "one"......you will know and with all the top quality rifles to choose from, you won't be disappointed.
