Defiance custom action options - comments?

I'm looking at piecing together a custom rifle in .308. I don't know much, except I really like the Manners stocks and I'd like to go with detachable magazines.

I've been drooling over Defiance actions, specifically the Deviant Tactical, but I'm really unsure what to do with all the options they offer: four ejection port options, 3 types of tangs, and flat vs. recessed bolt noses. The parts selection was fun with my AR, but this is a $1K plus mistake if I do this wrong. Thanks in advance for your comments.

If you are right handed then you probably want right bolt, right port, standard tang, plus whatever fluting and knob you like.

Right handed: right bolt, left loading port, right ejection port.
Left handed: left bolt, right loading port, left ejection port.
Heavy tang.
Recessed bolt nose.

The port options and one tang option isn't for the deviant action. You need to choose one of two tangs and one of two bolt noses. Shouldn't be very difficult, especially when Randall tells you what to get.

If you want a Deviant, then get a Deviant, it is set up ready to go. The standard Deviant is what most people would get if they went down the options list from Defiance anyway. I've got one, barreled up and waiting for a stock. Came from Bugholes, and in stock right now with 308 bolt face.

If you are going the custom build route look at getting a drop in chassis instead of a custom inletted stock. I went with a KRG xray and am happy with it. Those manners are very expensive (1k with adjustable cheek piece and such) and if you change your build in the future you're going to take a big hit if you go to sell it, unless you can find someone who wants the exact stock you have in the exact color with the exact inletting and exact barrel contour...Plus when I had my manners made it took 5 months to get it, and then another month when I had to send it back because they messed up and made me the wrong stock.

The heavy tang is stiffer.
Deflection in a factory sized tang is COMMON when 700 type receivers are dropped into chassis systems which don't fully support the receiver behind the rear action screw.

For folks looking into customs, I'd strong consider getting a bolt without all that fancy spiral jeweling/fluting crapola. I have one bolt with that fancy crap on it (yes, because that's what everyone gets), but I pooped a few hundred bucks down the toilet getting a new bolt since my bolt with all that fancy crap is the least smooth rifle I have to cycle. Plus, it looks kind of a girly anyways.

Anyhow, universally with rifles, when you have the option to flute or carve stuff out of your nice steel to make it look cool, don't, just DON'T. You will be paying more for less. I have learned this the hard way.
