I purchased my SBL in 2011 without knowing that Remington took over Marlin.. It was horrible but instead of sending it back to them, I sent it to Wild West Guns in Alaska and had them turn it into a WWG Co-Pilot take down rifle. Now My 45-70 fits into a small back pack if needed.

Lord, make me fast and accurate, let my aim be true and my hand faster than those who seek to destroy me, grant me victory over my foes and those that wish to do harm to me and mine, let not my last thought be - 'If I only had my gun'- and Lord if today is truly the day you call me home, let me die in a pile of warm brass,
    Amen

At the time it was $2400.00 but that was with everything including a 500.00 leupold scope and custom rail that breaks with the rifle, bead blasting etc... Now I think they want 2600 to 2900 for it. If I was to do it again I would just get the rifle from them and save the price I paid for it.

EDIT: It looks like it would be pretty easy to do the conversion if you had a machine shop..

Stay clear of the remlins (336 Big Loop) I had one that looked beautiful and I thought I got lucky until the stock loosend up and almost fell off after only 20rds of 30-30. Not to mention the sights were canted and the rifle was unsightable. Take a look at the Browning BLR in 308 win stainless takedown.

I bought one just like that about 8 months ago. I heard they worked thru most of their problems. Local gun shop said they would bring it in so I could inspect it and if i didn't like it for any reason no problem. Gun was nice. Did not have any of the fitment problems I heard about. Took it out to the local range and first 3 shoots were within 4" group at 100yds. I was very impressed. I rarely shoot open sight. After a box I was able to tighten up that grouping. You will love this gun and if you have any concerns ask your local gun shop to bring one in.

....you can see a photo of my Remlin 336y in my signature.....It is 2013 construction and has been flawless and accurate. I did swap stocks with someone who wanted laminate for the birch and then refinished it in Russian Red.
