        Thank You

EDIT: AND it comes in 1" mount and 30mm!

A little thrown off by long action and short action products for the rem 700.. In my case mine is a short correct? Also the mount that was posted above is measured 1" and the vortex I got is a 30mm... Is this an issue?

I changed it to both 30mm and 1" after looking at the DNZ sight. the link AR15 posted was just for the 1"........

Yes, you have a short action.

Get the mount that is the same as your scope. In your case, if your scope is 30mm get the 30mm mount.

Does it have the pre or post recall trigger on it?

308 Remington 700's will be short action receivers.
You need the scope mount to match your scope tube diameter.
There are MANY different versions of those one-piece scope mounts.

As for scope, i went with the Bushnell Elite Tactical DMR 3.5-21X50 with Badger Ordnance 20 MOA base & Low Rings.
I like Vortex as well, but in this instance on a .308 IMO the Bushnell DMR is perfect.

My next scope will be the Vortex Razor HD Gen2 4.5-27X56 which is going on my .338 build
Perfect setup there. I went with seekins rings and base on mine to save some money, and had a buddy help me bed the rail. I was surprised how much the rail needed to be bedded it was about 1-1.5mm off due to the action (not the rail). Just had my bolt knob done after this, mostly because with the larger scope I found the bolt knob to be slightly irritating to use (not unusable or anything), and it wasn't real expensive. The stock seems to do the job well enough but it's a little too short for me when shooting prone, so that's next for me.

I like the one piece mounts for AR's but prefer rings for bolt guns. You can get the scope closer to the barrel typically which isn't a concern on the AR platform since you have a hand guard to contend with, and you can more easily find a 20moa rail. The 3.5-21 is a great scope for this rifle, having the XRS 4-30x, I might just go with the 3.5-21x if I was to do it over again.

+1 on the Timney. It chanced my SPS from adequate to very good that and a HS stock, but you have a good stock on that already. Get the trigger and see how that helps.

Here is my first Remington 700 308 Varmint
I Started with a bone stock rifle:
Remington 700 SPS Synthetic VAR 308
Barrel: 26" Factory Remington with a 1:12 Twist
Trigger: Factory X Mark Pro it was 6lbs or so
Stock: Factory Plastic in Black, Maybe Synthetic
                            Scope: Zeiss 3X9X50 Rapid Z-6 (1" Tube)
Base: Leupold Standard short action one piece 0 MOA
                            Rings: Standard Medium 1"
Everything was torqued down to its recommended inch pounds.
Looked like this without the scope and accessories.

Shot pretty good. I used it for hunting also, FGMM 168gr Sierra HPBT for paper and Barnes 168gr TSX BT loaded by Federal for hunting.

I knew what it would take to push her as far as I could just short of getting the action done and a good aftermarket barrel etc.

So as soon as I got my hands on some cash? This is what I put together.
                            1. Jewel Trigger with Safety set at 3.0lbs BROKE LIKE GLASS
                            2. Callahan Aluminum alloy firing pin with shroud and spring
                            3. H&S Precision aluminum bedded short action Varmint barrel Stock Black.
I glass bedded the recoil lug, because I might know a few things.
                            4. H&S Precision Trigger Guard with Detachable 10 RD Magazine
                            5. Leupold Mark 4 one piece 20MOA base
                            6. Leupold Mark 4 30mm high Rings
                            7. Leupold Mark 4 4.5x14x50mm LR/T Mil Dot 30mm Riflescope
                            8. Harris Bi Pod
                            9. Karsten adjustable Cheek Riser
                            Torque procedure: H&S Stock at 65 inch-lbs, Scope Base at 30 inch-lbs, Scope Rings at 20 inch-lbs, Windage Screws at 40 inch-lbs.
No Gunsmith. Just followed Manufacturer instructions or Installation Guide.
                            VERY SOLID RIG.

She shot extremely tight at 100 yards with FGMM 168gr Sierra HPBT Factory ammo. I also tried Black Hills 168gr HPBT Match, Hornady 168gr HPBT Match, Hornady 168gr A-Max, Hornady 168gr Tap, Parvi Serbian Ammo 168gr HPBT. They all did great as the rifle would shoot factory ammo very accurately. But the sweet spot was the Federal Gold Medal Match 168gr Sierra HPBT Factory ammo. She shot lights out at 100 yards and gave me tight groups at 2 to 300 yards. I did manage to shoot a 36"X36" Metal Plate at 1000 Yards on September 14, 2008 at Hollands Camp in The Mojave Dessert,California. Landing 5 out of 10 shots with Mr. Krell on the spotting scope.
                            My Dope Data:

Now, You can turn out a very accurate Rifle with proper upgrades, quality equipment and factory ammo. All you need is trigger time and trigger time and more trigger time. Practice, Practice and Practice, tune your fundamentals where you can literally out shoot this platform. If you hand load even better.. I am not in any way saying that what I used is the only way to get the maximum performance. There are many different manufacturers out there that offer as good if not better products. Just put together a good rig that fit you, shoot the lights out of it and most of all don't let anyone tell you different. The rifle will let you know what it need for what you are trying to achieve.. And YES IT's Just a 700 SPS in ? Caliber
                            Good Luck

A hunting rifle and a range rifle are two different things. I have both in .308, my Tikka T-3 Lite is a light weight rifle that I can carry up and down canyons, ravines, hills, and difficult terrain and it won't physically fatigue me, my Remington 700 has a heavy bull barrel, large scope with turrets, and a Harris bi-pod, I would not relish the thought of carrying that all day.
Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

Absolutely right, But I do carry a 700 Varmint 308 for hunting.

This me in the Sierra Mountains, Hunting black Tail and boar.
