Guys I am 99% sure that Jeffu's pistol was touched by Boresight Solutions. Check them out, great stuff.
Essentially. Jeffu's 19 looks to have been done with more pressure and slower/longer "pokes" (as exemplified in my backstrap and finger grooves), while I used more of a light "prick" technique to achieve a finer, sand-like grit. Decide where you want to stipple, then outline it first with a pencil. Stipple over the line with the soldering iron to create your boundaries. Then fill in from there.
It'll be advisable to get comfortable on another piece of polymer or something similar (I tried the back of my Serpa holster. Once the soldering iron is fulling heated, it really takes minimal effort.
