    New S&W 686-2 I got on a trade

Any ideas on worth? From what I have read its a 1988, only made the -2 for one year. Looks to be in unfired condition. I've been looking for a 686 6" but my dad said I shouldn't fire it.... Thoughts?

It's worth as much as the gun you traded it for.

      Personally I would shoot it.

      Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

        Great shooter !
Personally, I don't view a lot of collector's value in a 686,,,the dash refers to the version. Yours is the second revision. I think they are up to dash 6 ?

Sweet, I figured it's not a museum piece. I went to Walmart the other day, damn 357 and 38 special isn't cheap to shoot! I might learn to reload if I like the way this shoots.

Yeah, why not shoot it? Model 66's and even Model 28's (Highway Patrolman model) get shot all the time. Your 686 was meant to be taken to the range.

Go shoot it. My dad taught me to shoot on one of these when I was a kid (in 38 special). I also remember my mom kept it in the drawer under the cash register of the family business and was a pretty damn good shot with it (in 357mag!)

I still have it and will never sell it for the memories above.

It's a pre lock so it is worth more. I believe it it's also pre-mom parts which some also value more. It's a great gun but it does have some desirable traits as an "investment". Even if you shoot it, it will still be worth more than its post lock counterparts.

Nothing really special about the -2 revision. They changed the hammer nose bushing for which the no dash & -1 were recalled.

                            I would shoot it myself...
