For a pistol safe I don't buy anything other than Gunvault. I have quite a few of them and haven't had any issue thus far. Good luck op.

To prevent rust/corrosion, does the firearm need some air/room inside the case or is it OK to be sandwiched between foam tightly? trying to figure out if I need to get Gunvault standard or XL size.

I don't like anything electronic between me and my gun, it's a non-starter. I use Vline Top Draw and old-school Amsec in my room. Fort Knox is also similar and very good.

These boxes have mechanical Simplex locks which can also be manipulated in the dark, and also can (should) be bolted to the floor. However when I am away from home for any extended period, I move my pistols to larger safes.

This is purely a function of your environment, the boxes being tight against the gun don't mean much. Personally I like to keep the foam off my guns. I keep a pack of pure silica cat litter wrapped in a taped up coffee filter, about the size of two fingers, inside the boxes. Basically a large desiccant pack, but cheaper than buying them already made. More than enough for these size boxes, and cheap to recharge every 6 months.

Or something similar. On a lock box, I much prefer a simple mechanical lock. One less thing to worry about and one less thing to go wrong.

+1 on the Titan. Mounts to the bed frame with one mount, and to passenger compartment floor of my truck with another. Has an internal quick release so the entire box can be moved from one to another. Pricey but it's a very secure set-up IMO.

Gunvault works perfectly. Change batteries once per year for proactive maintenance. No issues there. You can open it in total darkness just by feel. Can't do that with regular combo locks. Cable tie it to furniture (cable comes with it) It's not designed to keep bands of crooks from cutting your furniture and stealing your safe. If they're that far into your house you're in deeper trouble anyway. For keeping out kids or others, it does what it's supposed to do.

I have the FAS1, and have yet to "install it".

It has no holes, you drill them yourself to mount wherever you want.

I've not decided where that is in my house yet. Bedframe might make sense if it will fit somehow.

this is a bit bigger, heavier, and more expensive but its unbeatable.

the simplex lock system is fail safe. no batteries needed. you can even input your pattern and leave it without turning the knob. so if you need it, you can turn the knob to open it fast without having to re-enter your pattern. it only resets when you turn the knob to the left.

i dont like trusting my fate on a battery... i mean yeah i guess you do with smoke detectors in a house... I'm a big fan of simplex locks... like Shot Lock, or Fort Knox's pistol box is the most security for the dollar.

I endorse these options. The Fort knox boxes can be bolted down with the holes pre drilled. The shot lock will cable down easily.
