The venerable HK45 hardly needs another range report or review, but since any mention of one's acquisitions are frequently met by a demand for pictures, I thought I'd throw one together anyway. The recent "What's the deal with HK" thread makes it additionally relevant.

The HK has been to the range three times now, with approximately 500 rounds of WWB and Remington UMC through it. Of course, no mechanical failures of any kind. However, I did have an initial issue with accidentally dropping the mag after pulling the trigger. With my obnoxiously large mitts and disturbingly long fingers, the pad of my finger extended too far over the trigger. After pulling the trigger, my finger would occasionally engage the mag release unintentionally. Adjusting the position of my finger solved the problem, and switching to the larger backstrap made the correct position natural. Which brings me to my only complaint...
The standard backstrap came from the factory annoyingly loose. When gripping the pistol, the strap would shift. It would also shift around under recoil. I Googled the issue and found that it was a relatively common issue, and that HK will send replacements out if one is needed. The larger backstrap locks up nice and tight and there is zero movement. I'll request a replacement for the smaller one. For the record, the last time I dealt with HK customer service was to request replacement springs for my USP 45. The slide wasn't locking back. They sent out a set of springs, no questions asked, free of charge.

10 shots at 7 yards
The gun is a pleasure to shoot. Accuracy is excellent, and as they say, the gun is "far more accurate than I am." Still, I was happy with the results. The gun points naturally for me, and I find the sights very easy to track. I've read some criticism on the stock sights, but so far I can't say much about them. Bed side duty is relegated to a G19, so I don't have much concern about how well charged the "glow" sights stay. There is a lot of room between the rear notches and the front sight, but I still managed to track the front sight with ease and achieve consistently tight groups.
Oh, the DA trigger pull is horrendous. Probably a well known fact, but one made especially clear when compared to, say, a Sig P220.
Obligatory gun porn:
