I oil before putting them back in the safe. I always over-oil, because excess oil can be wiped off...but rust is harder to wipe off

After a couple range trips, so maybe 1k rounds or so. 45acp has allot of powder so they usually get dirty kinda fast. Don't over think it, grease the rails and put some on the barrel and link done.

Me either! I field strip and clean after every outing, probably detail strip once or twice a year. Look into a ultrasonic! it will save you hours of cleaning. well worth the money, in my opinion, if you shoot as much as I do.

Mine get cleaned after every range trip. I like clean guns and it gives me a chance to make sure there are no issues with premature wear or failing parts.

I also clean after every range trip. Only clean guns go in the safe.
Multiple rechargeable dehumidifier packs & digital humidity monitors in my safe & cabinets.
If I haven't shot it in the last few months, I will pull out the gun, swab out the barrel with an oily patch, and wipe down the gun with an oily rag.
I keep a couple in silicone impregnated gun socks. I live about 30mi inland from the SoCal coast and all that moist, salty air but it does flow up this way.
It's working very well so far in terms of rust prevention.

I'm leaning towards a field strip and cleaning every 500 rounds. Unless, if I don't plan to shoot it in a while, then after the range, even if fewer than 500 rounds. I can't imagine shooting less than 300 rounds per range outing.

Once every couple of years, I'm planning to do a full detail strip and thorough cleaning.

PS - I just plan to use Ballistol liberally and avoid the grease & oil products. In between cleanings, I plan to lube with Ballistol.

If I don't do a field strip, I at least spray the barrel a bit with ballistol. The old complaints of barrels rusting on the Kimbers are motivation to keep it oiled. Otherwise I don't worry too much. If it looks really filthy, I'll give a good cleaning

I havent decided a new regime, since my 1911 is one of my carry guns.

Because it's a carry gun, I use small amounts of grease on critical areas, and a lot less oil so the oil doesnt ruin my leather holster.

If I shoot a match, I go through about 250+ rounds, I strip it and clean it.

If I just put a few mags through it at the range for practice, I just wipe down the outside.

I'm contemplating a light cleaning/check schedule just because of dirt/and holster lint.

Thankfully, mine is stainless with no coating, so I dont worry about oiling it too much...

I detailed stripped mine when I first got them. My RIA needed it! My Ruger, not so much.

I think I would still detail strip, clean and relube once a year. A lot of gunk builds up in the internals over time.

Also, sweat and finger oils seep under the edges of the grips. The grips need to come off and clean/light oil under the grips once in a while if you have a non stainless gun.

+3, also I was always trained to clean after shooting. If you don't have time, make time. Been drilled in my head so long and so often, it would drive me nuts not too.
