Oil protects metal. The reason your parkerize (phosphate finish) guns is because it acts like a sponge to hold the oil in place.

Oil/lube your 1911 with a quality product and forget about it! You're overthinking this,

I just put some oil on the rails to lube it when it started to stick when cycling. I'll probably clean it after my next range trip...maybe.
                      Sorry, not sorry.

NOTE: I live near the beach. Humid Salt air permeates EVERYTHING.
Therefore things you thought would never rust in a week. DOES. And often.
I spend a couple of hours every month just chasing rust on my firearms.

If I am going to leave a blued finished gun in my safe for an extended period of time like 4 months or longer without taking the gun out occasionally and wiping it down with a slightly oily rag.
                        (5-6 months for parked guns)

                        I do the following

I typically rub all exposed metal parts with slip 2000 oil or 10-30 weight synth motor oil and leave them slightly wet before placing in the safe.
I use my fingers and several surgi/Q tips to get the oil EVERYWHERE.
I wipe off the excess with a slightly oily towel.

NO OIL on wood or plastic parts or scopes. Only areas that have ferrous metals.

I make absolutely sure I don't touch the metal surfaces with my hand when I set the guns in the safe as well.

ALL shotguns and non scoped rifles get the same treatment, then placed into silicone impregnated socks.
                        Such as:

I have electric golden rods dehumidifiers AND desiccant packs in all my safes.

                        STILL.
Many of the finishes will start rusting in a couple of weeks without a thin coating of oil. Remington bolt handles are the worst. They rust if ya look at em sideways.
Oil seems to work even better than Eezox in my particular application.

I don't oil the bores of any of my rifles unless I am clear it is going to sit in the safe for 6 months or longer. I don't like oil in my bores as I will need to remove all of the oil before shooting the weapon. Oil will carbon up fast when shooting.

I try not to open any of my safes on extremely humid days unless I have to.

That above data is my experience. Your may well be different.

I don't really have a set time of when I clean most of my guns, I try to run them pretty hard kind of like putting them through a test. I'm guessing for my 1911 maybe around 500, which isn't a lot IMO.

Get a good lubricant and lubricate all the proper areas and the gun will be ok stored like that.
