I have a .44 mag revolver that I bought to carry in big bear country when hiking, not for hunting. I've tried carrying a sidearm when hunting and it's a pain in the rear, the extra bulk and weight as well as being in the way. You will have a much more effective weapon already in your hand, throwing down a rifle to shoot with a handgun just ain't going to happen.
