I don't lock up my ammo, but I keep all guns, including rifles, in locked cases just in case I get pulled over by a police officer that does not know the law. Plus, I never know when I might be within 1,000 feet of a school.

not for SUVs though, or station wagons for that matter. his bimmer should be good to go if it's the sedan/coupe type (not a suv either).
why i miss my honda prelude and s2k. i hate having to lock each bag for my cr-v and remembering to bring the key.Comment

The question then becomes what did you do to warrant a search? If you did nothing wrong why did you allow the search. Even if you were speeding, texting, running red lights what else could it be that would make the cops say, "mind if I take a look in your trunk?" Are you wearing a shirt that says "FTP"? Do you look like a gangster. profiling? yes i'm sure it happens. There could be numerous factors that would prompt a LEO to search but citizens need to know the law as well and you do not have to agree to a search. I know this is discussed in many other forums over and over again but the fact or more to the point the assumption that cops don't know the laws means you should know them and should know them better. I know that this is the point of the OP inquiring in the first place but just know your rights as a citizen when it comes to things OTHER than carrying firearms in your vehicle. Other than that enjoy your new purchase.Last edited by protohyp; 12-26-2014, 10:44 PM.MESSAGE ME FOR ARMAGLOCK COUPON CODES!!!!

But their practice is not based on CA law.
See also http://wiki.calgunsfoundation.org/Transporting - whose content is easier to find, complete, and correct when trying to answer this question.
Note that a trunk is an alternative to a separate locked container - it isn't a 'locked container' on its own. I have yet to verify any claims that a trunk with a remote release or a 'pass through' into the passenger cabin is a problem for transport without a separate locked container.
This is an FAQ and it's about CA law, not handguns.
So, closed.
Such questions go to the CA Law forum, and this one is answered in the FAQ sticky in that forum.Last edited by Librarian; 12-26-2014, 11:25 PM.ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page
Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!Comment
