Okay so my dad just bought a Sig P226 in .40 and when there is an empty mag in it and you press the release, it doesnt fall out, you have to pull it out. if there is a round in the mag it pops out though. Any ideas abiut what would be causing this?

Sig P226 mag release question

Will the magazine catch drop the mag slightly to allow pulling it out or do you just pull it out? Usually the magazine catch, "catches" the mag to prevent it from dropping. FYI: Some mags don't automatically drop when pushing the magazine catch.
Pushes the slide? Is the thumb hanging on the slide lock button?Comment

no, it doesnt drop out at all, you have to grap the floorplate to get it out. Will the magazine catch drop the mag slightly to allow pulling it out or do you just pull it out? I was told tbat not all of them pop out on their own, but i figured it woukd at least drop out a little to make it easier to grabComment

I think MT1 has it right.
Heard about the same thing. A slide catch designed for 12 rounders and not the CA 10. Always on a 40 cal 226. Call Sig usually they ship you the part for free. But first try another 10 round mag and if does the same thing, you'll know it's the slide release.
Switch out the part with the right one and it should be fixed.Comment

Nope, bought it in state. And no the slide does not lock back on an emtpy mag. I plan on calling Sig tomorrow and getting the slide lock lever for the 10rd version. Would anyone happen to know if thats a fifficult thing to install? Can i do it or should i take it to a gunsmith?
So the new lever should fix both tbe slide not locking back problem AND the mag release problem?Comment

If you take the slide off and look down at the lock lever as you insert a mag you may see it deflect off to the side if the 12rd lever is installed. The 12rd lever has a notch cut out of the bottom side of the contact arm for the follower. If the arm is deflecting and not moving upwards that will explain the slide not locking back AND the mags not having that extra push out of the mag-well.
Sig will tell you to take the gun to a Sig armorer to have the part swapped, but if you have any mechanical ability at all its a very easy chore. I can describe it for you if you cannot find a write-up elsewhere.Comment

Okay, I tried it. When the slide is off, an empty mag pushs the lever up. But, when the slide is on it does not. If I pull the slide back and THEN insert the empty mag it stays locked back but if the mag is in and then i pull back the slide, it doesnt lockIf you take the slide off and look down at the lock lever as you insert a mag you may see it deflect off to the side if the 12rd lever is installed.
