My First 1911

So I just ppt my first 1911. I was offered a Kimber pro carry series one for $600. I had no intentions of buying a 1911. But it sonded like a good deal so jumped on it. Don't know if there is a premium on the early ones but the serial number is real low it's 100's. I'll post pics when I break it out of jail on the 26th.

I have a couple of questions. First did I get ripped off. The frame has the idiot mark but other than that it looks to be shot very little. Second is it worth buying the take down tool or just stick to using a paper clip.

It's give or take, but you got a better price because of an idiot mark on a better gun rather than buying a lesser gun without the marks for the same price.

I do recommend a bushing tool. really makes takedown alot easier. and at $4, hardly a sacrifice.

If the pro carry has a bull barrel like my pro CDP, there is nothing to use a bushing tool on (no barrel bushing). An unbent paper clip works just as good as the takedown tool IMO. There are folks on Calguns that don't use any tool for takedown. Do a search to learn the trick.

I tried a bushing tool, but I find an empty .45 casing works just as well to press down the guide rod. Once the guide rod is flush, the bushing swings easily, or it should. And the advantage to using the casing is that I always have some handy and I don't care if I lose one.

I have owned my Mitchell Gold 1911 for 10 years now love it
also bought the 22 conversion, never shot it but part of the product line back then.

I'm going to try the empty 45 case to dis-assemble the gun next time.
