Why is the mag disconnect such a big deal with some? I don't get it.nsomeone please explain

I want my defensive gun to run during a reload.
May the Bridges I burn light the way.

Fewer people are killed with all rifles each year (323 in 2011) than with shotguns (356), hammers and clubs (496), and hands and feet (728).

Not my pics.... borrowed from another forum temporarily, until I can get my LC9s PRO out of jail in a couple of weeks

I have a 9mm Shield with no thumb safety an APEX trigger, so I'm looking forward to comparing them side by side

what do you mean run? if the guns empty which is the reason you are reloading to begin with then there is nothing to "run"

so is that really all there is to it?

dont get me wrong im not for it or really against it for that matter i just dont see it as that big o deal. it doesnt add anything cosmetic to the gun like the stupid LCI.

is it just that its a reminder that the .gov feels it necessary to add something so dumb to a gun so that we dont shoot ourselves that makes it offensive?

im truly not trolling or anything, i just want to understand where some of this hatred is coming from.

Actually your question is a good one. Not trollish at all.

I have many handguns that have a magazine safety. I have many that do not.
I can only speak for myself. If I am carrying a defensive handgun and a spare magazine I do not want the gun to become inoperable if I decide to do a reload (fresh magazine) in a firefight. Speaking for myself, I never run a gun empty before changing up to a full magazine. If I drop a magazine I want to be able to fire the gun with that one round still in the chamber and during those seconds that I am inserting that fresh magazine.

I'm personally against the mag disconnect. I can see a benefit if your attacker over powers you... Dropping the magazine would disable the function of the gun, preventing it useful to either party.

I've always just removed the mag disconnect on the LC9 since it was very easy to do.

But if I ever decide to carry the LC9 style pistol and have that listed on a ccw permit, then I definitely don't want to be messing with any "safety" mechanisms mainly for the legality issues - like if you had to use the gun in self defense and it's now in evidence while you're going to court to defend your clean shoot, and the prosecutor wants to have your pistol 'tested' in various ways.

Therefore, having a pistol with the mag disconnect already removed from the factory saves you the trouble there (using a SSE pistol on your ccw permit is a different story altogether, and varies from county to county and at the discretion of the IA, as we all know already).
