An AR type pistol that is over 26 inches..not including a muzzle device..unless that device is permanant..can have a VFG, Grip Pod, Etc on it similar to the XO-26 by Franklin Armory...is this correct? I read that if over 26 inches it is considered no longer concealable on your person....so this is true and good to go? Is there any separate California issues to know about? I searched here but I didnt really see anything other than XO-26..does anyone here have an AR type pistol over 26 inches..with a VFG? My 80% build is about 28 inches not including the muzzle device...anyone?

I have one. As long as you have a bullet button and use 10 round mags, you're GTG.

Yes, over 26 inches is fine. Feds don't even consider it a pistol at that point, and not a rifle. It's an "other".

Huh? If it is over 26" in OAL it is not a handgun nor a rifle. It is just a title one firearm. "AOW" is a broad category that includes many diferent type of CONCEALABLE firearms. Since the definition of a "concealable firearm" includes LESS THAN 26" in OAL, the gun in question can not be an AOW by definition.

IANAL, but I believe that the gun's registered status as a pistol will not change in California, as it has a barrel under 16" long. It is only a federal issue as to whether it is AOW (sub 26" OAL) or just a Title 1 other (over 26" OAL not counting muzzle device, or not concealed).

Don't know if you are aware, but we LIVE IN CALIFORNIA !!!

often the ATF and CA DOJ are not on the same page, and as a result, we need to look at both sets of regs. Because as I am sure you are aware, just because you are good with the feds does't mean squat to CA DOJ.

Of course, we are not all as versed as you; my apologies for not cramming my head into books (or wherever you cram it to get your info) regarding every regulation out there.

I guess you must know everything ... Thanks for being so patient with the rest of us that actually have to know other stuff like medicine and such and don't have time to also be a library of gun laws ...
