Flash hider removal

^^^^ great observation. You do have enough barrel exposed to vise it without taking off the rails. Now assuming that you have the basic tools, here is what I would do:It would be safer to use a heat gun. Got a Harbor Freight near you? cheap and works well. Mine is 6 years old and still working as new.
Need a better look at the rail to know what you are dealing with. You've got enough barrel sticking out of the handguard. Shouldn't need to remove it at all unless you are replacing it too with something else.
1- You need a rectangle shaped block of hard wood,
wide enough to clear the rails yet smal enough to fit in your vise jaws. I'd go 3/4" wider than the rails. thickness should cover the end of the rails to a hair below the cruhh washer.
2- Drill a hole the size of your barrel's outside diameter at the center of the wood block.
3- Cut the wood block in half (lenghthwise) through the center of the hole. The line of cut should be parallel to the vise jaws. These two pieces of the block will go around the barrel and be the soft jaws for your vise. Now you can hold the barrel in the vise tightly. Use a layer of leather or something between the barrel and wood blocks to protect the barrel's finish.
4- Since I do not see a hex (for a normal wrench) around that muzzle device, You need to use a breaker bar thru the devices' slots or wrap it in a few layers of protection (cloth, etc) and use a plumbers wrench. That thing is knarly enough to give you a good grip.
5- secure the barrel with wood blocks in the vise. Heat the muzzle device first and then use the breaker bar or wrap it and use the plumber's wrench. That should do it.
Alternatively, There is a guy called the "AR Man" and he is a vendor here on Calgun. He or any shop can do it for you for the price of a cheap lunch if you do not feel like doing all the shop work.
good luck and make sure that you do not disfigure your gun.Comment

I would use a propane torch on the flash hider. It may be held on by loc titeComment

Brownells is short and won't exit the rear of the receiver, meaning youll need to find your own extension to fit in the vice.
You guys are looking for a solution that already exists.. Reaction Rod.
The magpul BEV is neat, will also work, but Reaction Rod will certainly last longer, it will last forever. It's worth the 100.. it's a huge heavy piece of steel..Comment

Thanks guys. I've ordered a Geissler reaction rod. Will update if there is anymore problems.Comment

The Brownells extends 2" outside the receiver, 9" overall length. Just a lot cheaper 'cause you're not paying for a name.Brownells is short and won't exit the rear of the receiver, meaning youll need to find your own extension to fit in the vice.

Actually, I was able to mount the KAK industry flash hider by simply TURNING IT CLOCK-WISE. Yeah...You're reading it right, and it's not a typo either. This particular AR adopts the AK style thread. I saw a guy on Youtube did the same thing with his AR. So I figured I'd try mine, and it worked.
Look at the 3:30
How do you post a youtube video on here? I try the youtube icon to no avail.Last edited by OmegaTrader; 01-08-2015, 10:28 AM.Comment
