    2nd gen Glock 19 reliability

I recently inherited a virtually unfired, new-in-the-box, 2nd generation Glock 19. After reading about the "Phase 3 malfunction" I'm thinking this gun should not be used for anything but paper plates and tin cans. Is there anything that can be done to make it dependable?

    Thanks,

    gary

I bought my gen2 19 new. It's an early one with Austrian proofs. It's been 100% reliable.

Since we all think SARS is being so inappropriate, you should not listen to him.
There is nothing you can do to make it "more reliable". I'd does need factory 15 round magazines that I still have from mine. I really miss that pistol, I think you should send it my way.

Unless someone has “fiddled” with it and “upgraded” it with aftermarket parts, it should be 100% reliable and ready to use. Think for a moment about how many thousands of Glock pistols are in service world wide in various military and police forces. You can always send it to Glock, and they will upgrade it for free with the latest extractor, etc if it is needed.

If you have the New York trigger, your may want to change it back. If it is a stock pistol. I would have no issue using it for CCW or home defense. If you are truly concerned, I suspect someone here on Calguns would be happy to buy it at a discount.

Where does this nonsenses come from?

I read the original article's summary: the stories about this have been vastly exaggerated. Google it yourself.

I had a Gen2 G19 that was so old that it still had the black internals.

It was reliable from day 1 through thousands of rounds. I finally sold it to a friend who begged me for it because his Gen3 G19 insisted on throwing brass into his face (even after 2 trips back to the factory)

I don't know what you've been reading about the Gen2 G19, but my personal opinion is that it was the best G19 made...but then I don't need finger swells, light rails, or changeable back straps

G19 Gen 2 is one of the best CCW pistols ever made, IMHO. Mine has been 100% reliable.

Lol, what do you think Glock built it's reputation on? Every Gen 2 Glock I ever owned or used in 9mm was flawless.

Your G19 should be super reliable. One way to improve your odds and ease your mind is to make sure your springs, extractor, and mags are in good shape. Apply lubricant in the proper spots.

Shoot a couple hundred rounds of your favorite SD round and see if there are any bobbles. I'm sure you will find that it keeps on feeding and hitting where you aim. Happy shooting!

We have an old, well used gen 2 19: zero issues.

Clean it out the factory gunk if it's still there, lube it... have fun running the crap out of it.
