    Love the p938. Nice piece.

Well, in regards to the what the interviewing officer told you, I would take it as a grain of salt.

About a year ago, I was talking with a local sheriff at the range about his short barreled rifle (7" AR). I asked him how long it took to get the Stamp approved or if it was a duty weapon...he looked at me with a blank stare, then said, "It's my personal rifle, I can own anything I want, I'm a police officer."

Based on the above experience and others, COPS know nothing about nothing.

    Play it safe.

I do not know if one sheriff department who distinguishes between roster and off-roster handguns for a LTC listing. You can list whatever you want -- up to three guns -- the only requirement is that you qualify with them. I am not worried about lawyers capitalizing on the fact that the gun was SSEd. The only time that is an issue is when you have negligently discharged a weapon and you are trying to blame it on the weapon. If you shot who or what you intend to shoot, there is no legal arguments worth a damn to be made that the gun might potentially be less "safe".

As soon as San Mateo SD starts obeying the court rulings, I am applying for an LTC and I am listing the following:-
      • HK P7M8 -- 9mm Para(off roster / 1995 vintage)
      • Les Baer Premier II 1911 -- 45 ACP (rostered)
      • Walther PPS -- 40 S&W (Off roster / SSE)

So a P938 that was purchased via SSE would be treated differently in court than a P938 that was purchased by PTP?

All I'm saying it's something to think about it...I'm a broker, so I take calculated risks for a living. This is a risk that makes no sense to me.

You're taking a CA banded firearm, then converting it to Single Shot Only, then converting it back to an auto firearm...

Why not just carry an non SSE firearm?

I have to agree here. I've been to many court cases where "information/evidence" was introduced by the defense that wasn't germaine to the case charges. It was an effort to tarnish the character and credibility of the victim. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't.. IMO, not worth the risk.

First, off roster firearms are not banned in CA. Second SSE is legal until 1/1/15.

The reason to carry a SSE firearm is because you can get great SSE guns like the P938 that you can't get any other way except PTP.

That said, you should do what ever is comfortable for you..

OK...so the idea is the SSE status will be used against you in court...how exactly? On a charge of...?

If you're imagining a murder/manslaughter case, it seems to me that even if you used your SSE CCW, got indicted, went to court, and the prosecutor managed to figure out that it was SSE and decided to make an issue of it, any competent defense attorney could keep that from being considered during trial, because it is totally irrelevant. Which part of the statute could possibly be proven by the nature of the firearm? A firearm is supposed to be lethal whether it has 1 round of .22 or 10 rounds of .45, and is only supposed to be used if you intend to kill the target.

But IANAL. Personally I do not keep any firearms registered as SSE. Not for legal reasons but in case the issuing agency decides they don't like it. It costs less than 50 bucks to get an SSE pistol re-registered as semi-auto in the correct caliber and there are numerous legal ways to accomplish this.

I bought my Ruger LCP and Gen 4 Glock26 (new) through PPT. I went the PPT route so it can't be denied by an IA for CCW but I don't see any negative legal repercussions for using a SSE gun for self-defense or CCW if your IA allows an SSE gun on your permit. At the moment SSE is a perfectly legal process. Non-Rostered guns are not banned, there's nothing illegal about swapping a barrel or using a 10 round mag, or standard mag if it's less then 10 rounds.

I'm sure I'll be old and gray with a walker and a Depends IWB holster by the time Alameda County allows for concealed carry but just in case I've got a H&K USPc 40 and XD subcompact 9mm that will work quite well.

I carried a PF9 for years but eventually tired of having the magazine pop out by itself, which continued even after changing the mag release from the plastic one to the metal one so it was replaced by a Springfield EMP. Of course yours may not have that same problem but from what I read about them it's a common problem.

CZ RAMI is a fantastic weapon if you don't mind it being a little chunkier than a Shield.

Personally I do. The Shield and XDS are already pushing CCW for many people, myself included.

Small, light, and low priced. S@W 442/642 or S@W 9mm shield.

G27 - current daily carry ( on roster for 2015)
LCR 357 - summer carry option

G30s - off roster but ppt from law enforcement. Can't wait to add this to the permit

Glocks, CZ, Sig, HK, J frames etc... we still have options and yes I hope that the roster gets defeated someday and I wish our CCW permits could be as simple as Revolver/Pistol... Then carry what you want... without having to hope your sheriff will allow a modification... Should your need change...
