Just jailed like new Smith J frame 640-1. I don't like the factory grips all that well . I am thinking about earlier model wooden grips with Tyler T Grip insert . Maybe XS Big Dot front sight ? I like the looks of the Milt Sparks PMK OWB holster for the J Frame . Suggestions how do you have your J Frames set up ?

Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

congrats on your 640-1 acquisition. i share your interest and my money likes the 640-1 as well; i just jailed a 640-1 (w/orig. small case and contents) .357 Magnum 2.125" pre-lock (1996). this model weighs in at about 23 oz, if my memory serves me well. it is known as a fighting gun in that it is more pleasant to shoot than most small framed snubbies, handles recoil comparatively well and the trigger comes very smooth from the factory (this is mentioned by most all that own this model). Uncle Mike's grips were the original OEM offering that the 640-1 wore.
the Uncle Mike's grips were offered in a boot grip for the 640-1 and also a combat grip that offers an extra finger groove; the boot grips offer 2 finger grooves and the combat grips offer 3. i don't even know if the Uncle Mike's are offered at retail anymore; they were factory OEM when my 640-1 was manufactured.
the Uncle Mike's Boot Grips are a Craig Spegel design. the cost for the Spegel wood grips can be a bit steep, but they're very nice and quite beautiful. also, they're not going to catch and bunch up clothing they pass over in concealed carry as rubber grips frequently do.
many elect to go with the Hogue Monogrip for the 640-1, which offers a fuller grip that houses the hand well. i prefer the fit and feel of the early Uncle Mike's over the Hogue grips, but would love to have a set of Spegel wood grips in the future.
for a production holster by a large company, i like the OldSchool Bianchi leather 55L holster. the 55L is made for the snubby without external hammer. i'm not a fan of the newer Bianchi leather holsters that are made in mexico and would take the time required to seek out the online auction circuit for an early example that is made in the USA. i don't believe this holster will accommodate a 640-1 with the boot grips or Tyler T-Grip adaptor because the retention strap will not properly close with these stock options; i don't know this from experience, but have read this as posted by other owners of the 640-1 (Smith & Wesson Forum). if interested in this holster, do your homework in advance.
i've kept my eyes open for an OldSchool Alessi holster or Milt Sparks holster for the 640-1.
there are some fairly good threads on the S&W Model 640-1 on the Smith & Wesson Forum that might interest you. the matter of grips and grip options is mentioned in some of these threads as well.Comment
