    VP9 at $550 - new value equation?

With the VP9 now selling around $550, is this not now a superior choice to a Glock for most people (due to equal reliability but superior ergonomics)?

This is coming from someone whose first pistol (and only pistol for most of my shooting years) was a Glock 23.

At $700 the VP9 is one thing but when the price becomes essentially equal to a glock I think HK might start to take some major market share here...

I don't know. I don't think it's been out long enough to compare reliability or durability. I'm not a label fan boy and I love my USP 45. But I think it needs more time to prove itself.
    I had opportunities to get the VP9. I've since bought 3 PPQ's and a Gen4 glock 17.

Not for everone im sure. But to me it does. Also the LE model is still more than $550. But in that price range there are more than a few options better than Glock.

The VP9 probably needs time to prove itself as reliable but it has already become my preferred handgun due to its ergonomics and accuracy. I was really big on my G17 and G34 but, these days, I enjoy shooting the VP9 more.

there are also those who prefer XDs or M&Ps over Glocks...due to equal reliability and better ergonomics

I think he meant when the price evens out after the hype/SSE.

VP9's are $999 at an FFL in Ventura...I get that it's "SSE season" but people who are willing to pay that much are foolish.

If it was $550 I'd consider it. There's no justification for a polymer pistol to cost over $550. Glock's, XD's, M&P's, etc, all go for under $550.

At $700, I would buy XDm 5.25 or M&P PC

^^^ that's exactly why I bought both guns mentioned at that price range!

I would also like to know where you can get a VP9 for around $550.

The VP9 is not selling for $550. If OP saw one for that amount, its an anomaly.

The cheapest I have seen them is $580 at grabagun and cross creek guns. However, I would guess that the average price outside CA is $600 and average price in CA is $675 (non-LE models).

Not 550...but close. By the way, it is totally worth IMHO to get the LE model.

You still have to pay SSE fee's, freight and Tax i'm sure but...

I feel the same about the PPQ, although the P99 and PPQ have been around long enough to establish a solid record of reliability. Personally, I feel the ergos and trigger of the PPQ are tough to beat.

While Glock makes a great weapon, they've paid relatively little attention to either their triggers or their ergos over the last 30 years. The designers behind the M&P, the XD, the VP9 and the PPQ have essentially listened to the public, taken what was great about Glock and added what the public desired. Technology evolves according to the market, after all.

That said, Glock is like the 1911 or the CZ-75: A brilliant design that holds up long after its inception.

There are a few that are ending that are at $575 + $25 shipping + CC fee.
