Glock vs CZ... I think I may become a CZ convert

So in this mad SSE buying frenzy, I picked up a CZ P09. Now I consider myself a Glock guy (2 G17, G34, & a G41), but I bought the CZ just to see what it's all about. I figured that if didn't like it I could always trade it for another Glock. I wanted to try the SP01, but I didn't want to stray away too much from the Glock weight. I picked up the P09 today and shot about 80 rounds through it. I was switching back and forth between the G17 and the P09 for comparison. I still can't believe it,but I really like the P09. I wouldn't say that I like it more than my Glock (yet) coz I still don't have that much time into it. Plus I have to relearn the whole DA/SA trigger all over again. What really impressed me is how much the felt recoil seemed softer compared to the G17. With some trigger mods, the P09 has potential... So I'm calling on the CZ guys - what have you done with your P09 (or other Omega trigger CZs) to reduce the DA pull weight and also reduce the pretravel? I Know there's the pro package, but at that point the P09 would end up costing more than a Gen 4 Glock with some minor upgrades. If I can improve the P09 at about the same price as a Glock Gen 4, I may be tempted to go to the CZ side. BTW, I still have a slot open for a Dec SSE... I'm really debating if I should get another P09 in case I end up really liking it.

I started off with CZ's. I handled a P-09 this morning, but I prefer the SP-01. The SP-01 feels better in my hand and the P-09 is kind of meh to me.

CGW SRT, race hammer, lighter hammer springs, and a little polishing and you got pretty much a race gun for $130 or so.

No worries. After installing all the parts including the extended firing pin with the lighter FPB spring, it honestly is about as good of a trigger compared to my Sphinx SDP.

If you want your CZ 75 to be the best it can be in terms of trigger action, then I would recommend buying upgrades/parts from Cajun Gun Works or CZ-Customs.

These are the improvements that I made to my SP-01:

CGW disconnector Type 2: eliminates pre-travel for Single Action Trigger Pull - $38
CGW Short Reset System 2: cuts double action by 50% and cuts single action reset by 50%, it includes two main springs 11.5 lbs (the one I use) and 13lbs, extended firing pin (well needed with lower weight springs), new firing pin retaining pin, lighter firing pin spring, and some other parts - $77
CGW Manuel Safety Race Hammer w Adjustable Sear: gives your gun a cleaner & crisper single action trigger pull, plus it looks badass (please note you need the adjustable sear) - $123
CGW Starter Punch Tool: this helps A LOT for when you need to remove pins to replace with new hammer & and new disconnector (definitely recommended) - $7
CGW Stainless Steel Guide Rod: doesn't do much, but thought i should get it. I didn't want to use cheap stock polymer guide rod on my all metal gun =] - $22
CZ-Custom 15 LB Recoil Spring: this makes it easier for you to rack the slide back and also aids in better accuracy because it creates less momentum when the slide come forward when you shoot so your aim does not pull down for the next shot. You could also go lighter, maybe 11, 13, or 14. I chose the 15lb because i wanted to make sure my SP-01 would lock the ammo in the chamber without any hiccups -- better reliability imo (by the way, the stock recoil spring is 20 lbs) - $7.50
CZ-Custom Aluminum Thin Grips: these are great if you have small to medium sized hands. They are slimmer than the stock grips & they have a place to put grip tape for non-slippage. They fit me well and I love them, a little pricey though - $75
CZ-Custom Straight Single Action Only Trigger: great trigger if you only want SAO. Frankly, I don't care for double action at all. It is lighter weight than the stock trigger for faster reset. Also has pre & over travel screws on it, so there is less creep when pulling the trigger - $40

                Total Upgrade Cost=$389.5

Upgrades are very pricey, but it is well worth it in my honest opinion. My sp-01 is my main gun, and I strictly use as my firing range gun.

Overview: So far with all these upgrades, I haven't had any problems or failures in my gun. I have put over 2500 rounds through it using a wide variety of 9mm ammunition, whether it be light or heavy. Please note I have NOT tried any hollow points, as I cannot afford them after these upgrades... LOL

My trigger action is super crisp and light. I have not measured the weight of the trigger, but it feels like it is in between 3 and 3.5 lbs. With such an excellent trigger, I could probably unload my entire magazine within a couple seconds, fairly accurately. Also with the SAO trigger & my sweet aluminum grips, my gun looks BADASS!! I am also considering adding a tactical flashlight or laser. I love my sp-01 and it's just a hoot to shoot! I hope my comment helps with your decision to upgrade.

Keep slinging that lead. All hail CZar.

You already have one, get something else.
Get a clone like the Tanfoglio EM, Sarsilmaz, or Canik.

Or get out of your comfort zone -> PPQ/VP9/P320/1911-9mm .

Yah I don't understand why someone would get a p226 or p227 over a tuned cz unless cosmetics. Both will run the same price

You could honestly cut that cost down to $250 if you just removed the FPB and the Lifter arm all together and replace the lifter arm with a $1.50 spacer. This will remove all the pre and post travel of the trigger and give you a reset at 2mm which is actually where the trigger rests to begin with. This does come at the cost of safety, which the firearm could potentially be slam fired, but as a competition or range gun, it isn't a huge issue for me.

Here is my trigger performance after the upgrades.

I wanted to try out a Tanfoglio, but the customer service reputation killed it for me. I'm sure that most have great quality, but with my luck I end up with the lemon and I get stuck with bad customer service. Never heard of Sarsilmaz...never thought of Canik...I'll look them up.

I looked at the PPQ and VP9 and the grip just didn't work for me. I can't find a P320 to hold, but I did try to look for them. 1911 in 9mm were on my list, but I held off... I suck with my Sig TACOPS 1911 in .45ACP. I'm sure all it takes is practice so I'm still entertaining the 9mm 1911 idea. It's just that time is running out for this stupid SSE.

I looked at a 75B SAO, But i couldn't engage the safety properly. I wonder if it was me or the safety was just a little tight. I'll have to go back to my LGS to try it out again.

The 75B SAO isn't going to be as good as a SAO conversion because of the FPB and lifter arm is still in place. With the SAO conversion and removing of those parts and adding the straight trigger, it'll bring a performance that is really only matched by a highly tuned 1911. The only trigger that I have felt so far that was better than my 75B SAO conversion is a $3500 STI done by JV Dynamics, and even then, I wouldn't even say it was $2800 better. My safety on my CZ 75B doesn't have a tight safety imo. If anything, I would say it was a little on the light side to disengage.
