I just got my Ed Brown Kobra Carry back from the long wait at the dealer, and I gotta say I am pretty impressed with it.
A little on my 1911 background.. I have owned a few 1911s from different manufactures from time to time. Started out with production guns from Rock Island Armory 1911s to Springfield 1911s (Loaded, TRP, Long Beach Ops, etc). I have had the chance to own a few 1911s on the higher end of the spectrum like Wilson, Nighthawk, GI, and Baer. No real experience with the full customs yet though.
So far, I gotta say the stainless Kobra Carry is one of the finest made 1911s I have ever owned so far. The Kobra Carry is a handsome looking gun from Ed Brown. I always wanted one since the last time I got a chance to handle one at the shop, and finally got one. The biggest surprise was how fine each and every parts were made. Bushing were very tight, lock up was really good. Slide to frame racks smoothly. I disassembled the gun for the first time (very carefully and it took a loooong time). Internal of the guns were clean and polished. Rail and moving parts were machined to perfection without any flaws. Even though most higher end semi custom 1911s are made pretty well, the internals are usually not finished quite as well as the external. Surprisingly on my EB KC, the internals were finished just as nicely as the external.
The snake scales are great as well. Regular serration works well for me, but the snake skin on the Kobra Carry seems to work even better! It looks nice, and performs. Not quite as sharp as the front strap on the Springfield TRP or the Professional. Different than the spikes of Guncrafter Industries. But it is quite a unique and effective way to get a grip on your gun.
I expect the gun to perform well as not many 1911s above the 2k price point fail to deliver. The EB KC is just an amazingly fine piece of work, and I salute Ed Brown for their attention to details in the internals as well as external of the gun. This would have made a perfect carry piece!
Here are some porn for some of you. Not mine, but the exact same.
