My buddy picked up his G42 last night. I was also going to get one, but I decided to go with the new Ruger LC9s. It's not that much bigger and its a 9mm. The LC9s fits nice in my pocket.

Or get the LC9s. Same size as the 42, but in 9mm

The Ruger LC9s is actually smaller than the Glock 42 but it's grip shape can be more uncomfortable for those of us with giant monkey paws making it more difficult to shoot well.

I unfortunately can't shoot the Ruger LCR, LC9, LC380 or LC9s very well due to the tiny sights, ultra-thin backstrap, and grip shape. The Glock 42 is the second most comfortable .380 to shoot I've owned, bested only by SIG SAUER's excellent P230/P232 series. Ease of shooting = more practice = more confidence with the chosen pistol.

I recommend the G42 highly...and I was one of it's most vocal detractors when it was first introduced. Guess I'm not so old of a dog that I can't learn a new trick now and then.

Get a 42 while you still can.
You can always pick a 26 or 27.

OP, you should shoot one first before purchasing. It's a love it or hate it type of gun. FT3 gun range had one for rent a couple weeks back. Give them a call to see if it's still a rental and give it a try.

I agree the 42 may be a little more comfortable with a shorter reach to trigger, web of hand a little closer to bore, and perhaps better grip angle and grip shape. But with practice the LC9S can be shot very well. They are otherwise the same size. The Pachmayr slip on grip made for the LC9 makes it a much better shooter for those with larger hands.

Galloway precision has a plus 2 grip extension and there's a mag spring i think that adds another. http://gallowayprecision.com/glock/g...-for-glock-42/

It may simply be that different folks have different hand sizes. I have smaller hands, but I don't think I'd like firing 250 rounds from an ultra-compact at the range.

I fired my friend's 45, and there was a spot on the beaver tail that pressed right against a bone on my hand, and after ten rounds of recoiling against that bone, my hand really hurt. It wasn't a problem with the gun, or its design or the caliber... it was just my hand holding that gun. I could have changed the grip, or my grip, maybe. But I couldn't tell until I fired it. So people who say you should fire guns at a range before you buy them... they're right. Unless you don't mind buying and selling until you get what fits you right.

                            Just my opinion, anyway.

It's still a chore finding .380. Beyond that, there have been numerous and well documented issues with G42 when using reloads or ammo that isn't hot enough to cycle the gun.

Recently shot a G42 and had problems where the gun fails to cycle with reloads from two different sources as well as Blazer ammo (brass and aluminum). Winchester, Partizan, Independence and Fiocchi all fed reliably but that is 4 out of 8 types of ammo tried.

It's still a great little gun but it sucks if you are a cheapo like me and like to buy bulk reloads but you can't because they wont work in your gun. Not trying to dissuade you OP, but if you get the G42 expect to have just a little bit trial and error your ammo. And it will cost a little (marginally) more $$$ to feed it.

Is yours the updated one? http://looserounds.com/2014/05/10/gl...es-to-the-g42/

Mine is and I haven't had any failures yet but with Remington and Freedom Munition reloads but I'm only at 200 rounds through it.
