M&P 45 Trigger

My new M&P 45 (no external safety) trigger is great. Not a race gun trigger but for defensive use it suits it's purpose and I'm not planning on changing it. My hope is to let a few thousand rounds smooth it out.

I have a 6 month old M&P 45 and a M&P Shield that's about 4 months old..Can't really tell much difference between the 2 triggers. BTW The 45 has no saftey & the Shield does not have the saftey either. IDK if it matters

Concur with the others on the gritty, mushy factory trigger. Apex upgrade did not make me a better marksman but I feel more confident with it. Never going to be as smooth as my Kimber or Wilson Combat but it is a lot closer than the factory trigger.

I had the old M&P 45 trigger and hated it. Gritty, spongey, mushy, looong, and little to no reset. The new factory trigger is an improvement, but not by much. I wouldn't own a M&P without Apex Tactical aftermarket components. The only exception might be the Shield. I could live with that trigger if I had to.

I'm not that picky about triggers. But stock M&P's are bad.

My M&P 45 has no manual safety (which I prefer). I put in a FSS and Aluminum Trigger Kit, and a Competition Spring Kit. It's probably the most accurate and precise handgun I own. The only drawback is the felt reset is still pretty light. But it's good enough.

It's one of my competition guns. But since I'm not shooting heavy any more, it doesn't get much exercise even though I love it. Nowdays my M&P 9 Pro (with Apex components) gets all the action.

I spent something like $190 for my components. But you can occasionally find them on sale for about 10% off from places like MidwayUSA.

Apex M&P Parts

Keep in mind that poly pistols are typically unforgiving of bad shooting form and trigger discipline. Low and left is typical for righty's new to poly pistols. You might get away with bad habits shooting a 1911, but not with a Glock or M&P. The upside is a poly pistol will teach you to shoot properly. With trigger time and proper technique, your groups will migrate up and right - back to the x-ring where they should be. Apex components will help, but won't completely overcome bad technique. Shortening the trigger creep and over-travel (and eliminating the spongey/gritty) with Apex parts will benefit you immediately.

If this is a SD/HD gun, don't lighten the trigger much, if at all. Use something like the Apex DCAEK for $93.

I own a few m&p 45's, buy the new style slide lock and that will give you a very nice reset. Order apex sear and only the sear and it will drop pull down to about 4.5 pounds. Run about 200 or so rounds through it and the grit will go away. The apex sear has changed in geometry so it is even more crisp than before.

Interesting news about the slide lock. I wasn't aware they came out with a gen 2. Know where I can get one?

I assume that they're universal fit but I'm not 100% sure. Anyway, I bought one of these for my 40c.

S&W's flat refusal to sell all but a select few M&P parts to the general public makes it way too hard to be a happy M&P owner.
