Berretta M9 vs CZ SP01 pros cons

Is the CZ a copy of the Berretta? They look similar. Kinda looking at the CZ Tach and the M9. Any thoughts?

I have a Beretta M9 and love it. Never held the CZ though so no help there. Guess my opinion would be a bit bias lol. But it's a sweet gun. Easy to take apart, easy to clean, and fun to shoot. Put about 600 rounds through it and haven't ran into any problems at all. They also have the M9A1 if you were looking to mount a flashlight or whatever. A1 has the rail and the plain M9 doesnt.

Yeah the M9A1 is what I'm looking at. They both seem pretty nice but need some input weather i should SSE either and which and why?

both great reputations.. I don't have any of the CZ's but I carried m9's for the latter 75% of my 20yr career.. I thought enough of them to buy one of each mentioned above..

if you don't have time to shoot both of them to make up your mind and you're partial to one based on your research, then I don't think you'll be disappointed..

          shameless plug

eta: SSE not required on the Beretta's, roster shows M9 commercial good until 6/17/15 and the 92FS Type M9A1 good until 12/14/14 [planned to renew?]
          and there's a CZ 75 SP-01 01152 / Steel, Poly good until 1/31/15 if that's the one you're considering..

looks to me like you should be buying all three.. in 30 day increments, you could buy them all brand new from dealers in the proper order before they expire on the roster.. of course if you find them good used for ppt, you could buy them all on the same day

I'd suggest the CZ that fits your needs the best. I especially like the CZ SP-01, but honestly haven't heard much in the way of complaints about any of their models. I have a couple Berettas and they're nice and all, but if I were buying one or the other, I'd go for CZ. Good luck

Good god, I would get the SP-01 first. You can always pick up a M9 down the road because they're always in stock somewhere.

And how dare you call the CZ a copy!

They are pretty different firearms, aside from the fact that they are both DA/SA weapons.

The Beretta M9 is a pretty sweet firearm and has been used by our military for over 30 years now. It narrowly beat out the Sig 226 in tests done by the US Armed Forces. It has a designated take down lever making taking down and putting back together pretty easy. Beretta designed the firearm so the barrel doesn't move at all, which they feel because of so, makes the firearm inherently accurate. It has a chrome lined barrel which should increase the life expectancy and with 100% interchangeability with other M9's. The pistol is expected to fire about 25,000 rounds before any required maintenance or replacement of parts. According to what I have heard, the Beretta's that are made in the US are going to fall off the roster because the move of their factory to Louisiana. So if your interest is in getting this pistol, I suggest doing so in the near future.

With that said, I am certainly bias towards CZ's as it is my personal favorite brand of firearm. There really isn't anything that they make that I don't like. Their handguns are known for their smaller size slide design and how it rides inside the frame of the firearm. This allows for a higher tang grip, ample real estate for good support from the off hand, and has a lower bore axis giving it less recoil than most, if not all firearms, within the same respected calibers. The original CZ 75 design back in the late 60's and finally put into service in 1975, which gave it their name, remains one of the most copied designs out there. Also there are more military groups around the world that use CZ's than any other firearm. The SP-01 is basically a CZ 75B/BD with a rail, where many prefer it to the latter because of the increased weight due to the extended dust cover and rail. It is one of the more popular guns used in competitions, all though a common complaint is the long reach for the trigger in DA. The weapon is very serviceable though through companies like Cajun Gun Works and CZ Customs, which provide parts for improvements like short reach triggers, short trigger reset, race hammers, single action only conversions, improved firing pins and improved sear for better trigger breaks.

The CZ has always had been a popular firearm within the firearm community, even the famous Colonel Jeff Cooperm the father of modern shooting techniques, had great things to say about their design of the firearm. Before Reagan and the fall of the communist regime in Czechoslovakia, obtaining a basic CZ costs well into the thousands of dollars, due to the requirement of having them typically imported through Canada and paying the fees to do so. With the fall of the Iron Curtain, CZ moved over here and incorporated as CZ-USA, but does not have the popularity of other firearms like Glock, Sig Sauer, or Beretta because of shorter amount of time in the country for marketing. Lately, they have exploded in popularity in the past decade and have only been growing since.

With that said, to add my personal bit into it, I like CZ's because they fit my hand and are easy to shoot well. I don't have particularly large hands so this is fitting in the CZ platform and the extra real estate allows me a really high tang grip which I prefer. I know the firearm inside and out as I have torn apart their firearms completely, so it is a platform I am extremely familiar with and can diagnose and fix any problems that I come across on any of my CZ's.

At the end of the day, you have to choose which gun feels better to you and which one you shoot better. They are both quality firearms from two quality companies that are not going anywhere.

And now for the CZ Gun Porn.

Cost wise I have a number of 9mms that are way more expensive/"high end" than my Beretta 92fs but I shoot the Beretta the most accurate out of all of them, and it's just a good looking gun to boot. I know there are a ton of CZ fans on here and probably for good reason, I have never even held one though so can't comment. The SA pull on Beretta 92 is a bit long but like said its by far the 9mm I shoot best. Even picked up a new stainless Inox version few mos ago so I have two.

As someone said earlier though, Berettas will always be available at LGS for reasonable price. Best shooting experience I have ever had, and mind you 90% of the members in this forum I bet are better shooters than I am, both w handgun and rifle, but only time went to some BLM land in So Cal w a friend rather than Angeles, first thing I did was climb up a small 50 ft ridge and place 6 soda cans on top of the ridge and then walked back towards the truck, roughly 75 yards. I first took out my Charles Daly standard 16" AR, first AR ever bought and has carry handle sites. Loaded w 55 gr Federal XM193 in 3 consecutive shots in 2 second intervals popped the first 3 cans. Obviously not big deal, only 75 yards but still was cool to see them all explode so fast since I only shoot steel and paper at Angeles.
But then I break out my Beretta 92 w Blazer 115gr and in 3 consecutive shots, pop all 3 cans just as did w my AR. I couldn't believe it, I was aiming up to a ridge and hardly could see the cans w my bad eye sight. Fun times.
However, the first made in Italy Beretta 92 I bought has given me feeding issues, won't go through a full magazine without cartridge getting hung up on bottom of feed ramp. Not mag or ammo relates as does same thing w all ammo and bought ton of meg cars and the ammo and mags work fine in my Inox.
Guess I got a lemon, it happens. Only semi I own that has ever jammed on me.

I'm out of country most of year for work so not lot of time to shoot so finally few mos ago when was back in LA I called Beretta CS, get some guy on the line and I'm fully expecting him to tell me to just send it in cause I have supported them by buying the newer Inox and also very nice high end Beretta O/U for trap. CS guy says- oh that's a common issue and easily fixed, just need to make sure locking block is very well oiled. I told him I own a bunch of semis and know how to oil my guns and never had that issue before, he promises me that was the reason and also if continues to give me trouble drive 2 hrs to Bolsa gun smithing which is certified Beretta gunsmith. Well his method didn't help at all and I'm out of country now and when home don't feel like driving 4 hr round trip to Bolsa.

Maybe I just got a bad CS guy, need to deal w when back in country in few weeks. Not knocking Beretta function at all, my Inox runs great and there's a lemon produced every now and then I guess, just though Beretta would be more accommodating. See what happens when return home but love the Beretta 92 and M9, I just for some reason have always been very accurate w them. The title of it being my most accurate 9mm could fall to no 2 though after pick up Sig X5 SSEd and waiting for me at home to start dros. But I'm huge fan of Beretta M9 or 92.

You would not be disappointed which ever you choose but I would go CZ first and Beretta 92G second. G series has a de-cocker and no safety SA trigger is very heavy. (G series is hard to find)

All three will most likely be renewed and not fall off the roster. Remain calm.

And no, I don't find them similar at all and have a strong preference for CZ.

I question how they will do that with Beretta's US Firearm factory moving to Louisiana. I believe CA will want them to be retested and without microstamping, they are bound to fall off. Anything from Italy is safe, but their US made firearms are most likely gonna be gone.

The 92A1 and the CZ SP-01 are both great, great guns and you can't go wrong with either of them try to get both if you can, they're that good! The safety nod goes to the 92 but the accuracy nod goes to the CZ.

CZs have been called by many as the best shooting pistol in 9mm.

I'd choose CZ, you won't regret it.
