Get the G26. You are familiar with the manual of arms and your G17 mags can be utilized.

I dont own a glock at all... I have a M&P in .40, however I can pickup any glock pistol and feel comfortable to operate and shoot it right off the bat. Between glock models, they all operate the same. Wont take much, or maybe any learning to adapt to a different glock model.

I thought the 27 kicked enough to be a little uncomfortable. A bit more than Id like for a range gun as it starts to wear on you after a bunch of mags.

Id add a G20 instead. In case you run into bears. On crack. With a G26/27 and a shield, you might be leaning towards carrying the shield and skipping the glocks. They're fatter.

I have a 26 on my permit and like it a lot. My IA only allows 3 on the permit, so my others are a Ruger LC9 and my Glock 22 with regular capacity mags. I keep the 22 on my permit to have something more substantial while hiking, etc. I've only carried it around town a few times, too big and heavy for me. The 26 is accurate and even small enough to pocket carry in some of the shorts I have. 10 + 1 capacity in that size pistol, with an extra mag seems like plenty to me. The LC9 single stack is a nice option for pants or shorts with smaller pockets or IWB carry.

Forgot to mention - check with your IA about having an altered pistol (LW barrel 9mm conversion in a 27) on your permit. I wanted to do that, but my IA requires that the pistol on the permit must be carried in its original caliber. Good luck on making your choice.

I dislike my G27 to the point of it becoming a BOB gun exclusively. It's not that it is hard to shoot or too snappy (I actually shoot it fairly well), it's just that it is too big to carry comfortably and well concealed, but too small to offer the benefits of a full size pistol. After carrying my LCP, I could never imagine running the G27 again. In hindsight, if I needed a 9 or 40 for carry, I'd go with a singlestack with a thinner slide. YMMV

Decided to skip the 26/27 and just run the shield and the LCP.. with the G17 at my third for now.. although I might grap a Gen4 G19 if I come across one.

I don't know your size or build, but I can conceal a 17 no problem. Try it out with different clothes and activities and see how it works out.

I think you made a wise choice by filling up your last spot with the slightly larger gun, rather than another subcompact.

As to the differences between the 26 and 27, I have the 27 along with a LW 40-9 conversion. I shoot both calibers on it all the time.

I love the 9mm (and have done so for over 20 years), but I also like the 40cal, which I consider a "9mm on steroids." It's nice to shoot on the Glock 27, I simply like the bigger boom feeling, and the feeling of more power. I can be just as accurate on the .40 as on the 9mm.

With that said, for CCW purposes, and for most people, the 9mm seems to be the better choice. It's just more controllable, more manageable than the .40, and will always be.

The .40, especially in a subcompact, is for more stronger and experienced hands, in my opinion. It's an awesome round, but it will require more work, more effort to master it.

The 9mm makes it easy for everyone, experienced shooters included.

I like your decision as well. A G17 with standard cap mags is a perfect truck gun or for when you can wear a jacket or other cover garment. Now, if you were stuck with 10 round mags, I think it's a different conversation.

Maybe look at the G19 again, sounds like a good idea for those winter months coming (if it does actually cool down in Orange County, it's not here in Riverside) when you wear something that allows a bigger gun without printing.

Go for the 40.
Get a Pearce +1 extension for 10 round capacity in the G27.
The extra bit for your little finger aids in control.
There are some loads for the 40 that exceed the 45ACP energy.

I have a Shield 9, G26 gen4 and a G19 gen3 on my permit. The shield gets 99% of the carry rotation. I carry the 26 with a 19 mag and an xgrip sleeve. In that config, it's not that much smaller than a 19, just a shorter barrel. Of the 3, I shoot the 19 the best.

I carry the glock 27 but all my carry arms are .40 S&W I just added the pierce pinkey extention.

OP, I didn't see you mention having any .40 caliber handguns in your post. If that's the case, I would stick with the 9mm so you don't have to invest in another caliber.
