Glock 27 or 26 .. third CCW

Looking to buy my third carry option (the other two are a 9mm Shield and 380 LCP..

Right now my third is my G17.. but even though I shoot great with it the gun is a big big to carry.

A G19 hardly seemed much smaller.. so I'm thinking a G26 or G27.. since both are limited to 10 rounds I was considering the heavier .40

But, I haven't shot either.. I know the G26 will be snappier than my G17, but how is the .40?

Thoughts on my third?

I carry a G26 and a 19 and I shoot them equally well. I used to carry a 27 and 23, but I was not as accurate with the .40 For me it was a bit too snappy. I was more accurate with the G30 .45 than the .40 This isn't the same for everyone, but it was what I experienced.

But you have a 9 and a .380, so maybe adding a .40 to the diversity is a good thing?

Another option is a snub nose revolver. Very handy, but also a bit rough in the recoil department.

I carry a G27 and it's a good size to conceal, but you already have a Shield which is similar dimensionally except the width, so not much different than a G26 except you get a few more rounds. I would actually suggest that you go something larger (G17 is great if you have standard capacity mags). If you are limited to 10 rounds in your G17, then maybe a G30S so you can bump it up to 10 rounds of .45.

A full size gun can be a car/truck gun while you carry your shield on your person. For me, there isn't enough difference between the G26 and the Shield to justify taking up two spaces on the CCW.

Both are a good choice, but if you already have two Sub-Compacts, why wouldn't you keep the third as a full size gun.

Sig P220 .40
Glock 27 .40
S&W Chiefs 36 .38

Note that there is no change in basic draw and shoot configuration between them.
However, now that Riverside is Six guns... The list is much prettier ~;-)

I'm in the same boat as you. I have the lcp, shield (can't dros for a few more days), and a glock 30 for my carry lineup. I'm deciding if I want a glock 26 or p2000sk to replace the g30 or add to collection, or go larger with m&p 9c or maybe even cz p07.

Since the largest mag we can get is 10 rounds we only need to find a gun that holds as many rounds and can carry somewhat comfortably.

Let me know what you decide!

My wife just picked up a Gen 4 G-26 and asked me to go "break it in". I ran 250 rounds through it in one range session and my trigger finger is still sore. It made me realize how much more I like my Shield.

I've got both a G19 and G26, there is zero difference in recoil OR accuracy.

Get the G26, almost as effective as the G27 but with less muzzle jump and faster follow up shots.

I do have standard caps for my G17.. and even one standard cap for a G19

The G19 seems so close in size to the 17 though.. that's why I was thinking G26/27

I like the XDS, gut it's really just a Shield..

A G17 isn't too big to carry?

Well, if that's the case I would carry my G17 since I have many standard caps for it.. and I have an SP2022 Sig as well.

I've owned two G27s since the 90's. I will be getting a G26 in the next couple of months. The G27 is snappy so the G26 will be better for follow up shots (and easier on the hand). Also, one more round in the magazine with the G26. On a side note, I find the Shield 40 easier on my hand and more fun to shoot than the G27. Rent both at a range before making a decision.

I have Gen 4 Gloc 17, 19, and 26. When I originally bought the 26 I was worried I wouldn't be able to hold onto it, but it turned out to very comfortable to shoot, I added Pearce (sp) finger extention base plates to a couple of my magazines which effectively give it the feel of my Gen 4 19. In you case if you already have a Glock 17 I'd get the 26 since it can use the 17's magazines as well.

Well, theoretically couldn't I get the G27 and run the LW 9mm conversion barrel and the G17 mags?

I really just need to find a way to carry my 17.. lol

I have both and yeah the 27 is a bit more abrupt when you squeeze the trigger but with enough practice can be a real tack driver. I'm a little slower with follow up shots on .40 pistols in general. I think if I HAD to choose one or the other I'd take a 26...
I'd take a 19 over either.

It's not that hard, just time consuming.. we have a whole CCW subforum if you want to find out more.

Of course, this is for Orange County.. if you're in LA County, well.. not so much
