Salient Tier 1 Glocks

What's the point of buying a car with 500hp if you can't take it to the race track? Or is there a point at all? I guess the point would be that its a free market and I could purchase whatever I want with my money whatever my intention is to do with it.

My friend has taken many classes (quite jealous that he took a Frank Proctor AND Costa Ludus class) where people have Salients. They weren't failing... they just didn't do it for him for $2000. Not everyone has $2000 to spend on upgrades for a single glock. If you do, great.

But are their upgrades worth that much when you can find alternatives for less? Probably not. If you have the money to spend, go for it. But if someone is trying to save money, it's not difficult to mod a glock for HALF as much and get a result where the gun is still superior to the shooter.

I had my glock stippled by a local calgunner in costa mesa. work is top notch and great prices. He advertises in the commercial section. Work is on par with Salients I have seen.

throw some 10-8 sights, a KKM barrel, aftermarket trigger ( if wanted) and bam done.

It seems a bit sad to spend all that money on a Glock only to shoot groups at an indoor range. Or as I call it, shooting circles in a phone booth.

The RMR'd Tier 1 would probably only be legal in Open Division, and not legal in anything IDPA.

But most guys buying these guns probably don't compete.

Who cares if it is IDPA legal? There are dozens of shooting sports. What if someone shoots open? What is the difference between spending money to build a glock vs a 1911 if the person likes it?

People who judge others based on the guns they buy or how they spend their money are usually jealous.

ZEV work is nice, but their stippling looks like a 5 year old does it. Not the best looking pattern on a Glock frame, but it still feels good in your hand and at least they stay inside the lines when doing it

I've shot a friend's Tier 1 G17 and it was nice. It wasn't a "holy crap I can now shoot way better now" type of feel, but it felt nice in my hands and I could see it feeling good in a defensive pistol course with a lot of movement and shooting on the move.

If you like the look of the SAI guns, but don't have the funds to pay for one, there are lots of reputable vendors now that offer similar services when it comes to stippling, slide cutting, TiN coating, and trigger work. While you won't get the full SAI treament and care on your gun, you can at least have something that looks nice to you and something that you're happy with that's within your budget.


If I had to compare a Tier 1 SAI Glock 17 and the TTI G34 that I've shot, the TTI G34 feels more like a true competition gun. The SAI Glock felt more like a battle-ready type Glock. Both felt equally well when shooting, but had slightly different feels to them.... at least for me.

I'm a firearms enthusiast, some stuff may seem pointless to others but I guess that's why there's a market that caters to more than one person.

Not even sure why you are posting in this thread to be honest cause you are not really helping out the OP with his question. Just stating your opinions he didn't ask for. But feel free to do whatever you want.

fwiw, taran tactical performs very little actual gunsmithing for their glock packages. i buy their sights and mag plates but that is about it. you would be better off just adding vickers items you like the feel of, stippling yourself and having zev or a number of other companies install a kkm or wilson barrel to custom fit your slide. if you want a better trigger, go with the fulcrum, it is the superior product and doesnt require you ship your glock to zev for "custom fitting and installation" like salient.

Alright, thats what I've been looking for! Thanks guys for all this input. I know that a custom Glock isn't going to make anyone a better shooter. It may make a difference in the hands of a great or competitive shooter. I am an enthusiast, and I don't compete. I also know that anytime you start modifying for performance you can expect that there is a chance that reliability and dependability will be effected. However, I felt that all I ever read was that SAI were not just overpriced, but very unreliable. But all the comments were from non owners, or from people who didn't have a shooting buddy with one.

I'm glad to hear from owners of these as well as from people who have shooting buddies with them. It sounds to me like those who own the enjoy owning them. Some of you guys have more than 1.

OP you came to the wrong forum for Salient advice, a lot of people that don't own one are going to chime in and try and advise you to spend less money and recommend cheaper shops, up to you to decide what you want to do with that advice.

Too late for that, my Tier 1 arrived on Friday I haven't shot it yet, but will be later this week.
