      If it has a less than 16" barrel, then under CA laws it is considered a "handgun" and all handgun laws apply.

        Quiet is correct, as far as California is concerned, it is a pistol. It is the ATF that terms it an "Other". Pistols will still be affected by SSE or soon, SSE2. From what I have been hearing, the consensus is that AR pistols are going to be the easiest to adopt to SSE2. AKs, not so easy and regular pistols, not so easy either.
