LCR if you're going to carry concealed. Otherwise the 1911, as I really don't consider the LCR a fun range gun. Great for CCW though.

A weapon that is limited to about human sized targets out to 15 feet or so due to its rudimentary snubbie sight channel, but that has some real power behind it. What it's not is a fun-gun or range toy or SHTF weapon. It's just not accurate enough.

On the other hand the Citadel is a pretty darned nice entry level 1911. It's accurate enough and has a plenty good enough trigger to be a really fun range toy. And it's reliable and hard hitting enough to make a great home defense and SHTF weapon. It's also highly tunable and upgradeable. It's just not as easy for an average sized guy to conceal under summer clothes but with the right holster and clothing selection it can be done.

Figure out what role you want the handgun to play and then pick accordingly.

A 5-shot snub-nosed revolver is perfect for concealment in shorts & t-shirt... but it's not much fun to shoot (esp .357).
Take your brother to the range and have him shoot it first... then offer to buy it off him.

The 1911 is more versatile all the way around. Suggest adding a .22LR conversion kit at some point. There are a couple good ones on the market,
all the way up to the Marvel Precision Unit 1, if you decide to get into bullseye (and no FFL fees).

Add a Glock (or polymer striker-fired of your choice) and you're working with a dandy little collection for shooting fun!

Indeed. The LCR in 357 is a fine gun. But i cant say i would find it enjoyable to shoot it allot, even shooting 38 special might not be as fun at the range after a few rounds.

Go for the 1911 unless you plan on carrying it.

I think I've heard of the citadel once... So it's either a cheap 1911 or not anything amazing. Too lazy to google it. So I vote Ruger.
