I want a gen 4 glock before it's too late. 17 or 19?

They feel quite different because of the location of the finger grooves. If you haven't shot both, go shoot them.

For me, I had a 19 that did not feel good at all. Have a 34 (Gen 3) with thousands of rounds through it that I love. Picked up a 17 Gen4 earlier this year, and 1,200ish rounds later love it. Don't miss the 19 a bit.

Having the 34, get the 19

I prefer the 17 and would not consider the 19 for CCW
There many other options that are better then the 19 for that purpose

      YMMV

I think I'm gonna go with the 17. I would rather have something be more comfortable than small in stature.

Yep! When running, gunning, & sweating w/ a Gen3, I dig the sandpaper TruGrips!

I do prefer the Gen4's grip size and texture, but it does tear up the skin on your back when carrying.
Rubber tractiongrips.com solves that issue nicely, plus gives you that extra grip w/ sweaty hands at half the price of Talons.

OP, either your hand fits a gun's grip comfortably, or it does not. Comfortable fit is conducive to accuracy.
I went with the G17 for the exact same reason. No second thoughts, no regrets.

Who cares if people with smaller hands think the G19 is "The Most Awesome Handgun of All Time !!!" ???

Buy a complete 17 slide for the 34. 2 guns in 1 no dros. Just pricey.

@losd619 It's sad if you make that decision solely by what the Internet folks tell you. You have to go and feel them and see how both feel in your grip. You might be surprised how well the 19 fits in your hand, you might be surprised on the size of the 19, you might not like the size of the 17? You may think it's too big, etc.

I honestly believe they both shoot the same, so the difference is size and grip feel. So I wouldn't worry about how both shoot.

I honestly don't mind either or, but being that the 19 is a little more concealable, I'm going to buy a gen 4 19. I will get a gen 3 17 next year for sure.

Shot the 26 , didn't like it really. To small man, reminded me of those toy plastic water pistols lol didn't know where to put my pinky and ring fingers lol

I am asking for opinions that's all. I did go down and hold both. The 19 just feels too small for me. I will most likely end up with a gen 4 19 before Jan 1 anyways.

Yea I know what you mean... gotta go with your gut... I do have to say I owned a g17 and g26 for a pretty long time and recently got a g19 and I do agree with everyone that the g19 is awesome... Being into guns for a few years now I ve come to realize if something has a great rep among gun enthusiasts with probably more experience than me... its probably earned that respect.

My g19 is becoming my favorite pistol now and I think I ll get a g23 before the end of the year ..

Don't forget the Gen 4's have the adjustable backstraps.

if you are only going to get just 1 get the 19. if you know you are going to end up with both in the future then get the 17 first, then the 19, and who are we kidding you are going to end up with the 26 shortly after that

Per the OP's question, I would get the G19. But I own a Gen 3 G19, and Gen 4 G17 & G34, and equally like them all. To me, they all serve their own purpose for what I want out of them.

Going back to what some people were talking about, a stock G19 and a G19 with the finger grooves removed and the trigger guard undercut is like a night & day difference in how the gun feels in your hand. My G19 feels about as comfortable as a factory G19 when it comes to grip area that my large hands to grab onto. I can easily put my pinky on the grip of my G19 without having to squish my other fingers in order to make it fit.

The pictures below may not look like there's much of a difference, but there definitely is when you grab the frame now. I can get a much better purchase with more of my hand wrapped securely around the frame now.
