    6 o'clock hold question

Shot a new P226 for the first time and it came with SigLite night sights. The rear sight was obviously higher than the front and I was shooting a couple of inches high at 10 yards and switched to a 6 o'clock hold. Always shot center hold and surprisingly got a reasonable group:

Dumb question -- knowing this, how does one aim when shooting in a defensive situation? Just guess and aim a little lower or is having sights requiring a 6 o'clock hold not really acceptable for home defense? I'd like to keep the night sights as is.

That's a pretty small target to be considered ok with a six o clock hold. In my target shooting days, the NRA small bore target set up at 25 yards was what we shot at. My pistol was sighted in to hold at six. The target was three times the size of what you are shooting at.
For a defensive handgun, you want your rounds to hit as close to exactly where your sights are if possible. It appears that your P226 is pretty darn close.

I was shooting the red bulleye target at 10 yards...so 3x at 25 yards makes sense.

It seems to me that a couple of inches high at 10 yards makes a huge difference in the lethality of a defensive shot. Maybe I shouldn't worry if most defensive shots are < 10 yards and are reasonably placed.

Look at the manual that came with gun. It should have an explanation of how to aim. For a defensive situation, you would not have time to worry about how to aim unless if both you and the offender are barricaded at a distance. Defensive shot under 10 yards should be just point and hit center mass. Practice that. It really does not matter if you are dead center. Anywhere within 4 to 6" inches of center would get the job done.

Are you using your iron sights to shoot this? Or is it shoot in low light where you are using the glowing tritium dots?
