He is misinformed. An AR pistol could have a 100 inch barrel as far as CA is concerned as long as no stock. There is no minimum barrel length. Perhaps he was referring to the supposed loss of velocity/reliability if you go below 10 inches?

thats what i thought, maybe the performance suffers and that why you dont want to, then he said anything over 10 inches and its no longer legally a pistol, so i asked him what would it be, and he said sbr... how can something be an sbr with no stock? i said ill have to call the atf or dft cause ive never heard of that, and he said they'll give you 5 different answers, so, i humbly come to you gentlemen. thanks i just dont want to sound like ignorant @$$, i actually want to educate him. misinformation is one of our biggest problems with gun control

Please don't give out bad information.

Under California law a handgun must have a less than 16" barrel.

        Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

I'm on my phone so I don't have all my links.

Google AR15+pistol+calguns and you should find a ton of information, including the PC numbers.

              Penal Code 16530
              (a) As used in this part, the terms "firearm capable of being concealed upon the person," "pistol," and "revolver" apply to and include any device designed to be used as a weapon, from which is expelled a projectile by the force of any explosion, or other form of combustion, and that has a barrel less than 16 inches in length. These terms also include any device that has a barrel 16 inches or more in length which is designed to be interchanged with a barrel less than 16 inches in length.
              (b) Nothing shall prevent a device defined as a "firearm capable of being concealed upon the person," "pistol," or "revolver" from also being found to be a short-barreled rifle or a short-barreled shotgun.
