It's most likely the different ammo. His reloads were probably of the bunny fart variety. A factory 115 gr. 9mm round will give a "sharper" recoil impulse than a warmish 124 gr. reload.

It does sound like ammo is the difference.
You should try some of his ammo in yours.

FWIW I find my M&P 9 to shoot smoother than my G3 G17. I am more accurate with it, if you dare to consider any of my shooting, accurate. If I had to let one go, it would definitely be the G17.

Well said! I agree.

m&p9 should be compared to a 17. 17 is waaaay softer than the 26, and way more accurate past 10-yards.

My M&P9 is softer shooting than my wifes 17 using the same ammo. I also IMO think that the M&P is a better gun for me, it fits my hand better than a 17 and I shoot it beter as well. But this is my opinion

I have 4 m&p9fs, glock 17 and 19.

M&p's are my preferred but its really preferential. As for smoothness, glocks feel smoother to me out of box, but after 200-300 rounds the m&p is just as nice.

Recoil feels the same to me from both platforms.

This is how I'd rate them (from least recoil to most recoil):

Gen 4 Glock 17 < M&P 9 < Gen 4 Glock 19

I own both. The recoil surely feels a little different between them, but I'm not "more" or "less" really applies. Each person probably feels it differently, but to me, they are about the same as far as the amount of recoil, or maybe the magnitude of the recoil. I can get back on target a hair faster with the Glock's, but a hair more accurate with the M&P's.
