Eh, if I do the ca version I'll probably leave it. I'm not as worried about the mag safety as much as I am the toggle safety. My 30 day wait period is over in a week, hopefully I'll find a good deal by then.

I have a CA model I got as a CCW gun and I don't mind the LCI mag disconnect I'm not a huge fan of but I wouldn't alter either it for the legalities of being a CCW gun as at least where I live your not allowed to have a modified gun basically gotta buy it how you want it.

I believe Ventura and San Bernandino have issue with SSE guns.

Could Kalifornia laws get any more convoluted and effed up?

This is all great information, thanks everyone. I've decided that this is going to be my final sse...didn't do too many to begin with. Anyhow before I drop the $450 on a shield, are there any other sub $500 handguns that I should look at? I would prefer a ccw-type gun.

The kahr cw9 is, if i'm not mistaken, very similar in cost, size and weight. Big difference is that it has a heavy trigger pull similar to an lcr or smith 640 as its primary safety mechanism.

Yea my wife has the cw9. It's a good gun, but I'm just not a fan of that long trigger. It's a great trigger, really smooth, but I prefer safe-style triggers. I love my Glocks, but I think the Shield trigger is an even better out of the box trigger.

I guess I'm just a maverick -- I have the CA version Shield 9mm and love it. Love the slide safety, love the LCI and don't mind the magazine safety. The trigger on my Shield is excellent.

You people who modify the gun, e.g. removing the mag safety, for example. Just picture yourself explaining this if you are ever involved in a firearms-related issue with the gun. Not a pretty thought.

That'll be just a minor inconvenience, comparing to the actual problems you will be facing.

Thanks everyone. In response to the SSE comment, this will be my last SSE. My budget is around $500, and I honestly can't think of any other gun I would want.

This is where I have a strong opinion...There is no way that I could live with "CAUTION CAPABLE OF FIRING WITH MAGAZINE REMOVED" in white lettering stamped into my gun let alone pay extra for it.

Get the California version!

Please explain how disabling the magazine safety makes the firearm more lethal. How does it make it more accurate? How does it make it shoot faster? How does it make the owner of the tool crazy and blood thirsty?

LOL. You've made a very good point, actually. Personally, I don't care about that message on my Shield. Well, I also don't care about LCI and mag disconnect on my CA-compliant Sig. I just enjoy shooting guns.

I actually found out I could get them for the same price, OTD (in fact, the non-roster would be slightly cheaper).
The message on the side isn't a big deal to me, but that mag disconnect just bothers me.
