    1911 holsters

I am trying to figure out what sort of holster I want for my 1911
The gun is a 5" Government length Ruger SR1911
Im nearly certain I want a leather rig
It will not be my main carry gun as thats reserved for my S&W M&P Shield 9MM

Im thinking the Bianchi Black Widow
Ive learned there are two version of the same exact holster.
One for cocked and locked and one for hammer down
I heard reports of the strap knocking the thumb safety off

Does anyone have suggestions on a leather 1911 holster or experience with the Black Widow??

If your 1911 is railed and you plan on using your attachments: try blade-tec

I got the Bianchi in brown and currently carry a Rock Island GI Full Size in it. I never heard of two versions and I never had the strap knock off the safety.

Ya I am wanting it in brown also.
Do you carry cocked and locked?

For carry, look no further than a Milt Sparks Summer Special. For training classes, try the Wilson Practical.

I ordered a Sideguard. It sits high, only 1 inch below the beltline. Perfect for my 5 inch RIA tactical.

I've been carrying my S/A Champion in this for 6 months, seems to work for me.

Savoyleather has some classic looking 1911 holsters. Might want to look into that.

I've worked about a decade+ as an armed security professional (guard, bodyguard, contractor, SME, ETC...), and I'm now simply an armed civilian. When I was working, I used the Safariland 200 Top Gun holster, Safariland 6280 holster, Safariland 6004 holster, and, later, custom concealment rigs made by Creger Custom Leather (David Creger: 714-538-7704). Honestly, it all depends on how you plan on carrying. I prefer a strong-side, 0* cant, high-rise holster. Even when concealed. Why? When I reach for the gun, I know it will be on my strong-side with at least a Level 1 of retention. Through years and practice, I got used to it. Once you get used to carrying a particular way, do not change it. Muscle memory works. Seriously. Find a pattern of holster that works for you and your routine carry option, and stick to it. Practice that way...and carry that way. Your mind and your body will learn the repetition and will compensate. Try it. It works. Cheers! --1911ShooterPhil

I have had this one for over 20 years, made by Andy Aratoonian of Birmingham, England. It's a Small-Of-Back (SOB) holster of excellent quality.

Some folks don't like this style, but it doesn't print with a heavy outer shirt or similar jacket and is comfortable to wear unless you are driving.

                          Just my $.02 worth...
