Sarsilmaz K2 45

Hi All,

I would like to get the Sarsilmaz K2 45 and saw several members either own one or are interested in it. I have read favorable reviews, and it has a great price. The problem may be getting mags since they hold over 10 and EAA is no longer the importer. Where can I locate mags, and what block do I need? I read Para-Ordnance P14 mags would work, but the follower is different. It would not lock open after the last round.

I was thinking of buying Mecgar P14 10 rounders and modifying the follower. If anyone know of a source to get the SAR k2 45 follower, that would be great.

If anyone has shot this and an EAA Witness 45 or CZ97, how do they compare? I just got an Elite Match 9, but haven't had time to use it. Thanks.

Personally I would have a hard time buying anything newly made in Turkey.

What appeals to you about the Sarsilmaz? There are lots of other Turkish bargains out there.

I bought a K2-45 while living in VA and I own a .45 Witness, but am wondering why you want to compare the two. The K2 has a barrel that fits in the slide like a glock, unlike the Witness which is similar to a CZ-97. The magzines I bought are from EAA and they work fine, but I never tried to use the P14 magazines. As for shooting, they both shoot good, and the adjustable sights on the K2 adjust for windage and elevation. I shot 185-gr jacket FP bullets that I reloaded so I don't know how factory 230 gr ball ammo would work, but I didn't have any jams or failures. The K2 feels good but the grip panels are hard black plastic, which one side had a small crack at the screw hole. Maybe the newer guns might have better grips since they are not being imported by EAA. The K2-45 is a reliable decent shooting gun, but not something a gun snob would get excited over. If you are a shooter, you'll be happy with the gun, but if you are a collector you might not be.

That may be your opinion, but the company that makes the Sarsilmaz is also a munitions maker for the Turkish government. They are improving their products as they get more experience in the US market. How about a high capacity double stack all steel .45? What's so bad about that? The K2-45 is more comfortable than my FNP-45 USG, which is a big plastic gun with similar capacity and double stack magazine.

Not mention that SAR has been in the firearms business for over 120 years.

I have a SAR B6 which is a Tanfoglio clone and I couldn't be happier with it.

Trask Firearms is the new importer for SAR. They don't answer the phone very much but are good with emails. Check to see if they can get you 10 rounders.

I was gonna get a k2 but got a witness instead. The capacity appealed to me but since we can't take advantage of it i let it go. Haven't heard anything bad about them except that they're bulky.

I absolutely love the K2. Now up to 500 rounds with 7 different kinds of ammo, and no hint of a malfunction. I haven't shot the CZ97B, but I've held one side by side with the SAR. The CZ's grip feels bigger and the trigger reach is longer. Many of the serious CZ fans over on the CZ board prefer the SAR to the CZ. And some of them seriously say that their 1911's stay at home when they go to shoot .45, because they take their K2. The only weak points I've seen are the flimsy plastic grips which many have cracked. The grip screws loosen up every 50 shots if you don't tighten them down enough to crack them. Warranty service and parts might be iffy, since they're in the process of changing importers. And they want you to pay shipping both ways for service. That said, I just love the gun and if I could get a good set of aftermarket aluminum or wood grips, I'd be in hog heaven. (They don't exist currently) I'm in Minnesota so I can't comment on the 10 rd mag issue.

What is your issue\beef with Turkish made firearms?

I own four Turkish made firearms, two Caniks, a Hatsan Escort s\a shotgun and a Sarsilmaz ST-10. All have been flawless with excellent fit and finish.

If it wasn't for the roster, I'd probably own more Turkish guns than Glocks or S&Ws.

I don't have an issue with Turkish firearms. I'd consider one second-hand. I just would prefer supporting American and Western European manufacturers if I'm buying a new firearm.

Sarsilmaz looks nice. I see the 9mm can be had for $300 and the .45 is a little more. Any experience with the two calibers in these?

Thanks for the replies. It will be a shooter. All the reviews I read said it's a good one. I like CZ patterned guns and prefer metal even though I have my share of polymer. Maybe it's just me, but the 97 with thin aluminum grips feels too thin. Feels thinner than a 1911 with wood grips. I'll email Trask to see if I can get any 10 rounders or followers.

Hi Stitch,

My LGS, Parallax Tactical, was able to get both of mine from their distributor.

They are off roster so they need to be SSE. If you are serious, I know a guy who may be able to rent you the SSE barrel. Some shops use barrel inserts so that might be a way to go as well.

Did you ever figure out how to get extra mags and/or magblocks for the K2?

EAA is once again the importer.

^^^^ Look for Mec-Gar mags at grabagun, KYgunco, or any major source. The blocks can be had from Magblock.com or anyone who sells magblocks. K2 mags are the same body size and lenghth as the Para 14-45 magazines.
If I had ay sse slots left I'd get a few of the Sars and Caniks.
