Sig p290RS

Just out curiosity, other than the Sig 290RS not being on the CA roster, why hasn't there been much talk about the Sig p290RS. I hear the original p290 had many issues, but it seems to have been worked out with the newer p290RS release.

There is much talk of the Shield of course, but what has been your personal experience with the P290RS?

Bad press because the first batch sucked and it's overshadowed by the P938 and more popular small polymers.

Also even the redesign, even though everyone agrees is improved, continues to get mixed reviews.

I wanted to get one and handled it but didn't like the grip. It's short but rounded. I'd consider one if it felt right in my hand. There's one for sale now in Orange County. I had to restrain myself and remember it didn't fit me...

I know a LEO that loves them. He just picked up another one with the laser. I decided to also pick one up with the laser after handling it. I have large hands and it felt decent. I guess well see after it comes in.

My friend just got one, and let me shot it. Though its grip felt tiny, it shot surprisingly well in hand -- all rounds placed very center and group tight. Everyone in the group tried it, and had similar impressions that it was quite easy to shoot well (for its small size.)

Compared to my G26, the P290RS was substantially smaller especially with the standard 6-rounds magazine.

With the factory extended 8-rounds magazines, all my fingers could rest on the grip and felt nice. It also came with factory night sight.

Some folks said it was hard to take down the slide, yet there were YouTube videos to show tricks to do it with ease.

No malfunction whatsoever during the whole morning we shot it. I think it would be a nice CCW choice.

I've been happy with mine, but am thinking of picking up a G43 instead. The lack of holsters for the 290RS is what's driving me towards something more mainstream.

Don't forget the trigger pull - Pull, and then pull some more, then pull, and BANG. The trigger reset is damn near all the way back out too.

It's just one of those things. Some people know about them and most don't.

For those of us that do know about them; we like 'em.

I've only taken her out twice. I was really impressed with how easy it was to handle. Even though it's a small light polymer pistol I feel like it has less felt recoil than my old Polish P64.

Agreed. I had a P290RS and sold it. For me it was so uncomfortable to shoot. I have owned and shot quite a few subcompact handguns. It was the only subcompact CCW handgun that caused so much pain to my right hand while shooting it. Thought it was just me so I had a friend try it out and he felt the same.

Yeah, fiddling with it prior to buying, it fit my hand well for a sub, but shooting it feels more like a chore than anything else. I'm thinking of selling this, getting a G43 - and then adding a G19 and G17. I shoot IDPA and USPSA with a CZ ACCUshadow, but I think I'll do some events with the Glocks to get used to the stress scenarios.

Mine is also my daily carry. And I agree, your list is good, but add the lack of mainstream holsters. I have an aliengear for 4 o'clock, but I daily appendix carry most of the time, and have had 3 custom kydex holsters made.

Osborn TacticalRig IWB holster and SuperMini Appendix IWB.
DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster.
