Springfield Range Officer vs Loaded

First off, all Springfields as of 2014 are made in good ole USA. No more Brazil (which is good, because a 1911 should only say USA on the side). That being said, I just purchased the loaded model. For me at least, the Novak sights are easier to pick up for follow up shots and the tritium sights add extra value. Only thing I am replacing are the grips and the guide rod. I would consider the loaded more appropriate for most people and don't think I'd spend the extra fees just to SSE a pistol when there's a "better" on for me already available.

This is at least my understanding based on what someone said who had spoken to a springfield rep regarding the USA made "NM" prefix frames versus other. Both the one I fondled and the one I got were both NM frames.Last edited by FCOD; 09-10-2014, 3:14 AM.Comment

I have a Loaded Target with the "NM" prefix and a very nicely fitted RO, both in 9mm. The loaded has been reliable from the git go. Accurate enough for shooting steel plates so I did mods to make it racy for USPSA SS. I've seen the ROs and one particular one caught my attention. It's nicely fitted by any means tighter than the Loaded. Initial firing on the RO had several FTE and erratic ejection. The extractor did not have any hold on the rim of the 9mm case at all. The trigger although crispy is on the heavy side with a slight creep after the slack is taken. Accuracy is better than the Loaded Target as my initial assessment of the limited firing I did with the RO. I got the RO's extractor tuned and have the trigger cleaned up and lightened. I'll post results once I get a chance to shoot it.
My experience with the Loaded models are the "NM" models seems to have better fit than the other prefixes. Im basing my findings on the several Loaded models I've handled and shot. The ambi safety, FCS and FLGR are nice to have if you think you need them.
If what you're after is for an accurate range gun the RO is a better choice to provide that itch. If you want a nice defensive pistol with all the added features then find a NM loaded model. The wise man said just find your place

I wanted a loaded for along time, but looking at what i was going to pa for it ive decided to save up and a get a TRP, Figure if your going to get a 1911 go big or go home.
keep in mind i still have yet to get one. especially after living in Nevada. Id rather walk around with 17 rounds of 9 mm in my M&P, then 7 or 8 in a 1911. although i think they are beautiful and awesome. For me i dont see the practicality of owning one as id never carry it. or use it at home.
, but if i was to get one TRP all day
my.02 cents forget the RO or the loaded, save up a few hundred more and get a TRPComment

It is my understanding that the RO is essentially a slightly lesser TRP.Using TapatalkComment

My coworkers RO in 45 ACP printed a one ragged 5 shot group that measure less than an inch at 15 yards. All the ROs I've looked at have better fitted slide to frame than the loaded model and the barrels are tighter in fit to the slide. They are not hard fit like Baer, but with a bit of tweaking one can squeeze out more accuracy.Last edited by JTROKS; 09-10-2014, 2:18 PM.The wise man said just find your place

I have a Loaded, and it has been a piece of crap since I've received it. Slide lock release lever that needs about 15 lbs. of pressure to release the slide, won't drop non-Springfield mags free, and a thumb safety with an edge so sharp it could cut glass. Not what I would expect from a gun at the $800-1000 price point. My friends and family disavow all knowledge of my existence, let alone my opinions.Comment

I had a Loaded before. No issues with it but the fittings and details are not that great. I now only have DW 1911's. IMHO , you get bangs for your buck with DW 1911's. Tight fittings but without required break-in period.

I will take it off your hands for $100.

I compared and shot a loaded and RO before I bought the RO. The RO is much tighter slide to frame fit. In order of tightness, TRP>RO>Loaded. Its also more accurate across all shooters I was with that day. I didn't shoot either well because I suck with 1911s. But my giant groups were tighter with the RO.Have a good day!Comment
