Question on 15 round mags.

I'm looking to buy a HK 9mm. Some dealers only have the model with 15 round mags in stock. Can I buy this model and later just buy separate 10 round mags to carry and keep the 15 rounders in storage?

You can not take possession of the mags. If your FFL has a HCP and is willing to, he/she can accept them and block them for you. They are "magazines" not "clips".

No. Not unless you're a law enforcement officer, or have a hi-cap mag permit (which aren't exactly easy to get).

It is illegal to buy, give, loan, or transfer magazines with a capacity higher than 10 in CA.

You also can't break the mags down into "rebuild kits" anymore either.

First off, they are magazines.

Secondly, your dealer would have to block them to 10 rounds for you. Last year you would have been able to have the 15 round magazines as rebuilds, but that isn't the case any more.

Assuming you are in California, they are not going to give you the 15 round magazines to just to keep in storage. If you have an out of state address you might be able to work something out. I assume you are looking at the VP9 as am I. I have found a lot of SSE FFLS will pin the 15 rounders to 10 rounds.

The 10 round mags are extremely hard to find right now, so having somebody pin the 15 round mags might be the best way to get the gun to the range.

You can't purchase MAGAZINES (not called clips) with a capacity over 10 rounds. If the handgun is not on the roster, you don't have much time to do a SSE buy. Most CA friendly sellers with permanently block the magazine to ten rounds.

yeah they have to pin the boxed clip to only hold 10 rounds.

An en bloc clip, that you use to load the rounds into the internal magazine.
