.357 Colt Trooper Mark III, old school. I have owned it over 30 years. Love the friggen fire ball that emits from the business end of it. That and my Hungarian AMD-65 AK tank gun will be making the trip if ever we have to bug out.

Glock 17, or Glock 34 with 17 with +2 baseplates +1 in the pipe and you got a 20 round handgun that's light, ammo's abundant and cheap, parts are common and cheap, and so are magazines and holsters
I know I'm a Glock fanboy"Ya dude just bought my 67th gun today"......sigpicComment

Wasn't that the handgun issued to him? The standard issue gun to a lot of police in France?
The MP5 that his partner wielded might have been a better choice than a revolver for CQB against multiple targets. 30 shots on taps beats out-in-6. < shrug >Originally posted by fennecfrankMission was accomplished, no one except the terrorists and Captain himself was harmed during the operation. Will he be more successful if he has a Glock? I don't think so.

That's tough! Number of rounds doesn't, for me, matter since my supposed "hi-cap" mags are all 10 rounds, same as my regular mags.
All of my handguns are 9mm (the Dude has a mixture of .40 and .45), so it's not a choice for me.
I'd say personally my bug-out gun would be whatever I'm most accurate with. In the case of a SHTF situation, I don't think I'd have to worry about open-vs-concealed carry. I'd want what I can hit my target with - that's the big thing for me.

Why not?Originally posted by fennecfrankThis incident happened in 1994, 12 years after Glock 17 was developed in 1982.
He didn't choose Glock 17, and took a weapon that best fit/suit his needs.
This is Special Forces we're talking about here, every shot counts, and every shot attempted must be performed or the operator dies.
Mission was accomplished, no one except the terrorists and Captain himself was harmed during the operation. Will he be more successful if he has a Glock? I don't think so.
What saved him was his body armour and partner shooting a 9mm. No?
Not arguing about glock vs revolver or 357 nag vs 9mm, but you seem to deny the fact that he ran out out rounds or couldn't reload fast enough.Comment

BUG out/ Pistol for me would be the Glock 26.
Reliable, Easy to Hide, Durable, for me I shoot it as well as any full size 9mm.
Takes larger mags
as "found" or needed...

Has anyone said PPQ yet? Why would it be my choice? a. because it has never malfunctioned, after thousands of rounds, not once, b. it shoots anything from self defense rounds to reloads c. I am extremely accurate with it.
In a bug out situation, I would take reliability over just about anything else. I won't be traveling with spare parts, cleaning kit, and my gunsmith will probably have run away to the mountains by then. So any gun that will go bang every time, or at least one that has shown me it can do it, is the one I will take.
For me that means leaving a lot of beautiful 1911's and others behind and taking the PPQ.Comment

Online expert. You assert without evidence why he he wouldn't do better better with a 17 round glock. Kettle calling the pot black?Originally posted by fennecfrank
Sounds like you were there to witness the whole thing. Did you see that he ran out of rounds or couldn't reload fast enough with your bare eyes?
You assumed he ran out of ammos or could not reload fast enough.
A Special Force operative got shot several times, meaning he didn't even have time to find a cover.
A situation like this, took only seconds. Captain entered the aircraft, fired as fast as he could. Killed 2 instantly, wounded another, then got shot. His partner, following him (don't forget about how big a aircraft door is), shot and killed the 4th and the wounded one.
If you were the 4th terrorist, you would start firing once you see this guy start firing at your friends.
In addition, Captain seems like a good shot. He only wounded the 3rd one was it because he was already shot by the 4th one? Did Captain even finish shooting every single round in the cylinder?
Very glad to meet another "online expert"!
